Sacked Interior Minister Mai Fatty Not Under Corruption Investigation

(JollofNews) – The Gambia’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Aboubacarr Tambadou, has denied opening a corruption investigation against former Interior Minister Mai Ahmad Fatty.

Mr Fatty was shoved out of President Barrow’s cabinet on Friday after only ten months in office. No official reason was given for his sacking.

However, a North Carolina based Gambian newspaper, Freedom, said Mr Fatty is being investigated by the Justice Ministry for corruption and abuse of office.

But the Justice Minister said the story is unfounded and insensitive.

In a media statement, the minister of Justice, Aboubacarr Tambadou, said: “The Office of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice notes with great concern an unfounded report in the Freedom Newspaper regarding alleged criminal investigation in respect of Hon. Mai Ahmad Fatty.

“The Ministry of Justice rejects this report as completely unfounded and insensitive to the family of Hon. Mai Ahmad Fatty who must be going through a difficult time. The doors of the ministry are opened to everyone including the press, on all matters pertaining to the ministry. Therefore, it is expected that such goodwill and open door policy will be reciprocated by verifying any report pertaining to the ministry before publishing same as news.”

  1. Politics is dynamism & never static in any shapes or formats at anytime, be in Africa & anywhere else…
What’s certain is, politicians come & go while the Gambia which really matters stays; it’s a given fact that the Gambia is bigger than any individual politician & all politicians together combined…
Political & other opponents will undoubtedly capitalise on this issue to score political & other personal points for politicking & various purposes…
What’s worth considering is the fact that political maturity to be enhanced in our collective endeavours to facilitate societal elevations & progress…
There will be more new parties & new breeds of politicians vying to seek political offices, without any doubts; & the wresting combats in the political arena; drumming ‘duma, kumun samorom duma!…
The sky is the limit for all & any would be politicians interested in political offices from henceforth, whosoever feel they get what it takes to contribute & elevate Gambia…
    God bless Gambia; Ameen…

  2. Since Mr Barrow, the president did not give out any reasons for let go Mai Fatty, since some people are accusing Mai Fatty of financial impropriety and since Mai Fatty himself has challenged any one with evidence of his financial impropriety to come out…….My personal take is this, the president has the power to hire and fire any political appointee, please lets remember that this is a coalition government and as such before it’s tenure finishes you can expect such from the president any time and on any body.Mai be strong and be patient your day will come one day,Allah willing. For the rumor mongers please fear Allah and say what you know only or keep quite,it is a big sin to lie.

  5. The president’s power to hire and hire doesn’t exonerate him from explaining to the people the reasons for his actions since he doesn’t pull the money from his salary/pocket to pay those he hires and fires. Whenever he rescinds that responsibility of explaining, he’s doing a disservive to the people who has hired him. When matters like that continue, the people have a right to speculate, gossip, givet heir own verdicts and do any guesswork. To avoid all that, a responsible person in a responsible position clears the doubts.
Until recently, I heard the audio recording of one SERIGN BAI MASS, a silly arrogant who has become a Barrow praise singer and sycophant. A Serign Bai Mass who confessed hating President Jammeh but lures the Gambian population into loving Barrow. Does this STUPI IDIOT think that the over 230,000 people who voted for President will immediately sell their allegiance for an uneducated, corrupt and inefficient man simply because a Serign Bai Mass now loves a wolf in presidential clothing?
Please convey my message to this Serign Bai Mass!
