Saikou Mballow Says Fulas Occupy Strategic Gambia Gov’t Positions

President Adama Barrow’s adviser on political matters Saikou Mballow has emphasised that Fulas currently occupy key Gambia government positions and therefore, no longer need to cower.

Mr. Mballow claimed that Fulas were tormented and made to weep in The Gambia in the past but stressed that such would never happen under the current dispensation.

“We would not condone that, that’s the fact. We even have several Fulas in the upper echelons of the national police. I am not a tribalist, but I am only hammering home the truth,” Mballow stressed as he addressed a collective of Fulas at State House in the presence of the Gambian vice president.

Mballow rhetorically asked who else can a person defend if he/she doesn’t give a back to his/her tribespeople.

“We are not saying here that you should violate the laws,” he quickly added.

Earlier in his address, presidential adviser Mballow, who himself is a Fula, told his tribesmen that if Fulas are not more favoured by this government, then it cannot be the reverse.

“That’s the fact because if you take a look at it… From the ministers, the president and vice president are all Fulas. And that’s the fact. If you take a look at the secretary-general of the civil service, he is also a Fula. The director of SIS in The Gambia is a Fula. A chunk of those working in law enforcement and decision-making positions are Fula,” he enumerated.

Mballow indicated that Fulas should harbour no fear in The Gambia as long as he remains an adviser to President Adama Barrow.
