Seedy Ceesay Says Nobody Dares Take Light Out While Jammeh Delivers SONA

The Gambian President Adama Barrow might have been tight lipped about the embarrassing power outage mid his 2025 SONA delivery, but his party’s administrative secretary said no one dared switch lights off while the former Gambian dictator delivered his SONA.

SONA is an acronym for State of the Nation Address and it’s a declaration of policy objectives and directions and allied issues, which is made by the President each year.

President Adama Barrow was last Thursday at the National Assembly building in Banjul to deliver the address, but in an embarrassing turn of events, the national electricity company snuffed power out even after the Gambian leader sang its praises.

But to Seedy Ceesay, NPP’s administrative secretary, what happened at the legislative chambers on Thursday is unimaginable during Jammeh’s time.

“For example, if Yahya Jammeh was doing his SONA, nobody dares do that. You rather go and hang yourself than thinking you gonna switch off the electricity. Let us be fair. But you know, President Barrow was sitting there and it happened,” Mr. Ceesay told Coffee Time With Peter Gomez on Tuesday.

He did not, however, say whether the power outage was a sabotage or not.
