There was an escalation at the Gambia/Senegal border on Wednesday evening as the Gambian border security refused entry to The Gambia to marauding Senegalese forces, who attempted to arrest a Gambian-registered timber log-laden truck, reports reaching JollofNews indicated.
According to reports, a band of youths chased alleged timber smugglers from Makuda in the southern Senegalese province of Casamance near the Gambian border village of Darsilameh in the West Coast Region on Wednesday evening.
The truck was subsequently seized by the Senegalese security and forestry officers before it was escorted to Jululung at the other side of the border.
Sources said the driver and his apprentice reportedly fled to escape arrest by the Senegalese forestry and security officers, who came to the scene armed and in armoured vehicles.
The development reportedly led to a tense stalemate between the Gambian and Senegalese forces.
