When after the Masembe election President Barrow wrote to Lawyer Ousainou Darboe to say “congratulations for your victory in Masembe”, according to UDP senior official Lamin Manneh, Mr. Darboe said: “Thank you, that’s how elections are supposed to be. The winner wins fairly and squarely and the loser congratulates him or her and we move to the next stage and we prepare for the next round. That requires also doing the right thing and having soft infrastructure in place to be able to do this and that includes having an IEC that is independent, that is going to do the right thing. And he told him now, Momar Njie is going or has already left, I can’t remember, now you have an opportunity to appoint somebody of integrity, somebody whose integrity cannot be questioned by anybody to do the right thing. Once you do that and you ensure elections are free and fair, we can get to the same result at the national level.”
Mr Manneh was speaking in an interview with Coffee Time With Peter Gomez on Monday.
