Trade Minister, Business Association Tour Jaeja Tomato Factory

The Minister of Trade, Baboucarr O Joof, together with members of the Gambia Business Association, has paid a working visit to the Jaeja Tomato Factory, one of the country’s emerging agro-processing ventures.

The delegation was received by Dr. Abubacarr Jawara, Chief Executive Officer of GACH Global Group, which owns and operates the factory.

The visit, held on Friday, was aimed at giving the minister and business leaders a closer look at the factory’s operations and its role in boosting local production.

Speaking during the tour, Minister Joof expressed appreciation to the management of GACH Group for opening their doors to government officials and the private sector. He noted that factories like Jaeja are vital for strengthening food security, creating jobs, and reducing dependency on imported tomato products.

Sir Farimang Saho, President of the Gambia Business Association, also commended the initiative, adding that supporting local industries is central to driving economic growth.

He pledged the association’s continued cooperation with businesses that invest in processing Gambian produce.

Dr. Jawara welcomed the minister and his delegation, describing the visit as an important gesture of encouragement to the company’s efforts. He reiterated GACH Group’s commitment to expanding agro-processing in The Gambia and contributing to the development of the national economy.

The Jaeja Tomato Factory, located in Banjulinding, processes locally grown tomatoes into paste and related products.

Its establishment is seen as part of broader efforts to promote value addition in agriculture and create opportunities for farmers across the country.
