Tributes Pour In For Late Journalist Fatou Samba

Tributes continue to pour in following the sudden passing of prominent Gambian journalist Fatou Samba, who died on Saturday. Samba was the Country Coordinator of Gambian Talents Promotion and a well-known figure in the country’s media landscape.

The Gambia Press Union (GPU) expressed deep sorrow over her death, describing it as a significant loss to the media community.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the proprietor and the entire GTTV family during this difficult time,” the union said in a statement. “This is an immeasurable loss not only to your institution but to the media community as a whole. May Allah (SWT) forgive her shortcomings and grant her Jannah. Ameen.”

The Minister of Information, Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, also offered his condolences, calling Samba “a determined and hardworking media personality.”

“Her demise is an irreparable loss to the nation and the media fraternity in particular,” Dr. Ceesay said. “We pray that Jannah be her final abode. We extend our condolences to Mr. Pa Ousman Joof, CEO of GTTV and husband to Mrs. Fatou Samba Joof.”

Alagi Yorro Jallow, a veteran journalist and commentator, paid tribute to her storytelling and influence.

“She was not just a journalist—she was a voice carried on the wind, a presence that filled the airwaves with truth, warmth, and unwavering dedication,” Jallow said. “Fatou Samba did not merely report; she connected, her words weaving through radio frequencies and television screens, touching hearts, informing minds, and shaping conversations.”

Fatou Samba was widely respected for her commitment to promoting Gambian culture and talent, especially among the youth. Her passing leaves a void in a media fraternity still grappling with the loss of one of its most vibrant and passionate voices.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
