Two Dead, Several Injured In Kalagi Bus Accident

Two people have died and several others were injured after a GTSU passenger bus veered off the road in Kalagi on Monday.

Police say the bus, bearing registration number KM 4845 K, was travelling from Bwiam to Soma when the driver reportedly lost control upon reaching Kalagi. The vehicle left the roadway and crashed, resulting in the fatalities and multiple injuries.

Emergency services arrived swiftly at the scene, transporting the injured to the Kalagi Health Centre for treatment.

Authorities have identified one of the victims as Yahya Mballow, 29, believed to be a native of Wellingara Kejew. The second victim, a woman, has yet to be identified.

Superintendent Modou Musa Sissawo, Public Relations Officer of the Gambia Police Force, appealed to the public for any information that could assist investigators in determining the cause of the accident.

In his statement, Superintendent Sissawo also reminded all motorists of the importance of road safety, urging drivers to observe speed limits, maintain their vehicles in good working condition, and exercise caution to prevent further tragedies.

Police say investigations into the incident are ongoing.
