UDP Campaign Manager Says Karafa Sonko’s Exit Will Not Affect Party

The United Democratic Party (UDP) campaign manager in Lower Niumi has downplayed the impact of Karafa Sonko’s resignation from the party, insisting it will not affect the UDP’s political strength.

In an audio obtained by JollofNews, Muniru Jammeh said Sonko’s departure “does not reduce or add anything to the UDP,” adding that the party was responsible for giving him political prominence in the first place.

“It was this party that gave him his prominence. The UDP made him who he is politically,” Jammeh said.

According to Jammeh, the party decided to withdraw Sonko’s nomination for the councillorship election after concluding that he lacked support among the electorate.

“His unpopularity among the constituents made it clear that he would not be the best candidate for the position,” he explained.

Jammeh maintained that the party would not insult or attack Sonko but would speak openly about its decisions. He also suggested that regular airtime on Niumi FM could help explain the matter further to the public.

He went on to question Sonko’s loyalty, recalling that he joined the UDP long before figures such as KMC Mayor Talib Bensouda.

“How can you be so ungrateful and selfish, succumbing to someone you brought into the party?” he asked.

Sonko’s resignation adds to recent defections from the UDP, but Jammeh’s comments reflect confidence that the party’s base in Lower Niumi remains intact.
