Brikama Area Council Chairman Yankuba Darboe has accused the Gambian government of manipulating the 2021 presidential elections through alleged voter fraud.
Speaking to United Democratic Party (UDP) supporters in France, Darboe claimed that the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) inflated vote totals and tampered with election procedures.
He alleged that Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) officials instructed UDP polling agents to sign blank result sheets, which were later used to alter the outcome. Darboe also claimed that vote counts were artificially inflated, giving an example: if the UDP had 4,000 votes and the NPP had 800, a zero would be added to make the NPP’s score 8,000.
Darboe criticised delays in releasing election results, suggesting the government used the time to manipulate outcomes. “They used to have their targeted results. That’s why the results are delayed,” he said.
He urged UDP supporters to remain aware of what he described as systematic manipulation and corruption.
The Independent Electoral Commission has not responded to the allegations.
