Gambia introduces digital driver’s license

Commissioner Sulayman Secka, Public Relations Officer of The Gambia Police Force, last Friday said The Gambia will introduce a digital driver’s license for all categories of vehicles. The measure is said to be a means to guaranty the reliability of the said document in the current context characterized by high fraud and counterfeit of some administrative documents in the world. And if fully implemented, Gambia will become just one of a few countries to have reached such a highly digitalized status in its public administration history. In this regard, new and strict measures have been taken to guarantee transparency in the process of acquisition of the digital driver’s license.
Police Commissioner Secka who was speaking in Banjul said that people, in the obligation to acquire the new license, will be required to be physically present at the police headquarters for making the document. “We will no more issue licenses without the physical presence of applicants. Besides, their identity cards will be scanned and the references made available online. These are the minimal prerequisites for the acquisition of this new document. Afterwards, applicants will attend convenient driving schools” said PRO Secka.
