Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade this evening, 17th February, arrived in Banjul to attend Gambia’s 45th Independence ceremonies scheduled for tomorrow, 18 February 2010. The Senegalese leader was received upon his arrival by his Gambian counterpart and host, President Yahya Jammeh.
The second of its kind within one month, this visit by the Senegalese leader constitutes a clear indication that the rapprochement between the two countries is being scaled up to higher level.
Accompanied by their entourage and with police patrol cars in attendance, the two heads of states emerged from their black official Hummer jeep, amid a warm welcome by ordinary citizens as expression of the esteem and high regard in which the Gambian people hold their brothers, the Senegalese people.
Meanwhile, Guinean interim president, General Saikouba Konate, is also expected to arrive tomorrow. The announcement of his rescheduled arrival was aired on State owned media (GRTS) radio.
