(JollofNews) – Diaspora based Gambian pro-democracy activists have donated US$5500 equivalent to D220, 000 to supporters of the Gambia opposition United Democratic Party (UDP) who are in detention for taking part in an unauthorised protest against the regime of President Yahya Jammeh.
The donation, which was organised by a US-based Gambia Democracy Fund (GDF) will be used to fund the legal cost of over 30 UDP supporters including their leader, Ousainou Darboe who standing trial for unlawful assembly, riot, incitement of violence, riotously interfering with traffic, holding a procession without a license and disobeying an order to disperse from an unlawful procession.
It will also be used to support the families of the detainees and with other logistics to help the opposition to continue its struggle against the Gambian regime.
