Gambia’s Jammeh Swings Axe At Diplomats Who Asked Him To Quit

President Jammeh

(JollofNews) – President Yahya Jammeh has terminated the appointment of 12 high profile Gambian diplomats after they publicly failed to back his bid to hang on to power.

The ambassadors including Dembo M. Badgie in Beijing, Sheikh Omar Faye in Washington, Momodou Badgie in Ankara, Elizabeth Ya Eli Harding in London, Dr. Mamadou Tangara in New York, Momodou Aki Bayo in Moscow, Teneng Mba Jaiteh in Brussels, Momodou Pa Njie in Dakar,  Lang Yabou in Madrid,  Masanneh N. Kinteh in Havana, Abdou Jarju in Bissau and Mass Axi Gai in Addis Ababa last month distanced themselves from Mr Jammeh and urged him to handover power peacefully to opposition candidate  Adama Barrow

Mr Barrow was declared winner of last month’s election after he secured more than 45% of the vote according to the country’s electoral commission.

Mr Jammeh had initially conceded defeat and praised the country’s electoral system as rigged proof. He changed his mind a week later and declared the results null and void citing huge and unacceptable mistakes by the electoral commission.

He also ordered security forces to take over the headquarters of the electoral commission shortly afterwards. He is also challenging the results at the supreme court and is  asking judges to declare him winner of the election.

But the diplomats said Mr Jammeh’s rejection of the election results has the potential of undermining the peace and stability that the Gambia is renowned for.

Mr Jammeh’s mandate is due to end on January 18th, he has so far refused calls to step down.

  1. One must be grateful and content after 22 years running the country. Nothing lasts forever and it is time for Jammeh and the likes of you to recognize the will of the people for the sake of peace in our country. Greediness is a toxic that has infected you and those trying to deny the will of the people for a change and may God help you .

  2. Jammeh’s dog, why did you hide your name?

  4. XXXXXXXXX! You are a coward like Yahya Jammeh by redacting your name. What are you afraid of? Being called for what you are,an ignorant nincompoop.Reveal yourself to the readers if you truely believe in what you are saying. Down with Yahya Jammeh and his cronies. Long live the Gambia.

  5. Jammeh failed already.

  6. Traitors behave just like how Sheriff Bojang and others do.

Yahya expect that many of their tribesmen will abandon you, but remain steadfast and reaffirm your position “backward never forward ever. God is ever powerful and Inshallah they will all regret their acts. As the wollof saying goes “Sosseh du sosal ken” they are devillish and only want to see your downfall but they will never live to see that. Note that with their treacherous plans in their defections none will ever survive to see your downfall. It is now clear to you that with all what they were saying in niceties and praise singing they were undermining you just to see your downfall but God the all knowing and everpowerful is and will continue to.protect you from their evil machination. INSHALLAH.

    LONGLIVE YAHYA A.J.J. JAMMEH
    LONGLIVE THE GAMBIA

    • At these very moment why have you people all of a sudden taken to tribalism. Sad enough, the video recordings at the court house today, I could hear people speaking clear Mandingo. These people are die hard APRC supporters like every other tribe who went there. That the former interior minister decided to abandon APRC, you started branding a tribe and could explain it along tibal lines. You are too narrow minded. And this narrow mindedness was responsible for the APRC defeat. That phenomena erroded the APRC support from its traditional support base. We all know mandingoes are the largest ethnic group who stood by Yahya jammeh even though they are the most discriminated against. And by the way who is evil? Yahya Jammeh who killed, oppressed, voilated and abused people with impunity or the people whose only crime was they were voted for by the majority of Gambians. Better you stop the hallucinations because Yahya Jammeh and APRC are history. Sheriff Bojang defection is not anything tribal and is pathetic if it is seen as such. It arrouse out of the geniune and sencere desire to accept the truth. And if the truth be told Yahya lost the elections fair and square. Mischief makers will say, there was cheating but God and heaven knows there was no such thing. This time, unfortunely for APRC and Yahya Jammeh Gambian people opted for a change. The down fall of Yahya is just here seen by himself and every one, except for those of you blighted by your self centered ambitions.

      #Long live Adama Barrow
      # Long live the Gambia.
