Senegalese Troops Storm Gambia

(JollofNews) – A Senegal led regional force backed by heavy artillery is reported to have entered the Gambia as part of efforts to flush out the country’s long-term ruler, Yahya Jammeh.

Mr Jammeh, 51, is refusing to handover power to Adama Barrow, who was declared winner of last month’s election.

The move came shortly after Mr Barrow was sworn-in as Gambia’s third president at the country’s embassy in Dakar, Senegal.

“Ok I can comfortably confirm that the Senegalese army is moving into Gambia direction, and we right behind the convoy of armoured tankers. so far it looms like we going all the way, unless we are stopped at some point. Remember Gambia in your prayers” wrote Gambian journalist Sheriff Bojang Junior who is embedded with the troops.

Also confirming the news, Colonel Abdou Ndiaye of the Senegalese army wrote in a text message to Reuters: “We have entered Gambia”

Meanwhile, JollofNews has obtained a video footage showing  Gambian villagers cheering and thanking the Senegalese soldiers as they march on into Gambian territory

More details to follow soon.

  1. First. .

  2. I wonder what will happen when they get to the ferry?

    • Clearly you have no knowledge of geography or even enough intellect to use google to educate yourself which even a 5 year old does in this day and age 🙂

      • Clearly you have no maturityand lack the brain power to reply properly on the internet skills that even a 5 year old has in this day and age

    • Most professional and well-trained militaries around the world have military engineers that would setup temporal bridges within hours to support their mobility. I guess Senegal or Nigeria should have that.

    • @Stan= there is a way to enter Banjul from Senegal without a ferry, for example from Casamance to Jara Soma straight To Banjul. They also have the capability to come through the sea with there vehicles and arms. The operation is both by land, sea, and air. Don’t worry about it, because these people are professionals in their job, and they really know what to do.

    • The operation is by land, sea and air. They have the capability to transport themselves and their vehicles and arms through the sea. They can enter Gambia and Banjul in several ways by land.

  3. May God help Gambia amen

  4. @Disgraceful Jammeh is fast approaching his final humiliation dilemma punishing by God. Now, the dictator has no choice, but only surrender, No more Malian Witchcrafts help him to escape from African Enforcement Forces for democracy and rule of law.It opens the new era of Hope for Africans and made in Africa as the symbol of African power is emerging. No Africans need a bloodshed, but provoked by Greedy Jammeh.

  5. @Stan..What ferry? They don’t need that buddy. They’re going through the other sides of the border.

  6. OK. I was looking for them to come from Dakar (the way I have always come and gone). I wish them the best of luck and I hope they are able to march all the way to the State House with no resistance. Surround the State House, cut off the electricity and smoke him out. I hope after he surrenders they throw him in Mile 2 to give him a taste of his own medicine!!!

  7. Additionally, I hope the new president is bright enough or at least one of his advisers (maybe Mai Fatty,) to dissolve the NIA. With Yahya gone it will not be needed. Besides, they are all loyal to Yahya and I am sure every damn one of them have committed treasonable acts!!

  8. To All the fantastic people of the smiling cost of Afrika, keep smiling, a better future is just arrround the corner.

  9. @gambia — if you love honey follow bees. And if you wanna destroy self follow hatred.
Wars may easily be won but not peace and stability e.g Iraq and Mali. ECOWAS and Senegal in particular has done the worst mistake in life.
History is the landmark by which we are directed into the real course of life.

    • Time will tell, my friend, time will tell.

    • Nope. Don’t you think the mistake is Yaya’s ?

    • What would have been the “right” course of action to avoid this “worst mistake in life”, if I may kindly ask ?

And if I may also observe, unless you intend to cause trouble for the new Gambia, peace and stability should quickly return to The Gambia, as what is happening is the facilitation, for the realisation, of the will of The Gambian electorate, as expressed on December 1st.

  10. Something The Gambia’s armed forces could have easily accomplished.

  11. They are Boys Scouts….We Gambian people have a lot work to do, we all must roll up and start working hard–Nation-building is not an easy task, Love of country and good civic education !

  12. Eva Mbucha, Penda Chorro Sarr

I can’t understand how Yaya Jammeh is trying to rationalise justice (for his sake) when throughout his term he failed to lead a legitimate government (e.g. how can he ask the Gambian people to fair to him when he hasn’t been fair to Gambians?) !

    The irony is mind boggling.

  13. How cunning is ousman Badjie last month he declared his support to Adama Barrow his excellency of Gambia, few days later he changes sides again saying yaya is paying his salary. Now yaya is no longer the president why don’t he go and arrest him, he is bragging about my soldier boy’s are not going to fight the ecowas soldiers. I have a message for this general of Gambian army, this is your job you meant to do by taking yaya out ,not the outside force doing it for you. Unless you the general are so implicated in yayas circle of criminal bandits. Show us your true image do something for Gambian’s to be proud of you by arresting jammeh, he has over stayed in Adamas office. That’s what loyal soldiers do to your new president. If you don’t arrest yaya you will have a lot of questions to answer when Adama took office, also you cannot be trusted with our arm forces for been disloyal. He might have to let you go and revamp the whole army.

    • Very valid point

    • I agree, after the crisis The Gambia armed forces need to be purged. If Yahya leaves peacefully, the Ecowas forces should still come in to protect the new government, protect the population and make sure everything is clear around the country. I don’t trust our armed forces and the Yahya supporters. The Ecowas forces should come and stay and make sure no stone left unturned throughout the country until all is clear and safe.

      • The Ecowas forces should come in an stay for a while whether Yahya leaves peacefully or not. They should search for any hidden weapons around to country. And they should make sure there are no group or groups left to start an insurgency in The Gambia. I simply don’t trust Yahya and his supporters. They should clear everything including Kanilai to make sure the clountry is safe.

        • Jammeh should not be allowed to stay in the Country. This is to prevent future disturbances to public order and terrorists movements. Is also important not to leave no stone unturned to make sure the country is safe after Yahya departs.

  14. I pray the All Mighty God will intervane eary to avert human error.Amen.

  15. I pray The Almighty God will intervane early so as to avert casualities, amen.
