Gambians Paying Millions For New President’s Hotel Bills

Gambia’s new president Adam Barrow

(JollofNews)– Despite crying out to donors that he has inherited an economy that is virtually bankrupt and in need of immediate restoration due to mismanagement of the country’s finances, Gambia’s new president Adama Barrow is spending millions of Dalasis in hotel bills.

Mr Barrow who succeed long-term ruler Yahya Jammeh last month, is currently using the luxurious five-star Kairaba Hotel as his main office building pending the completion of work at the State House.

But despite  appealing for emergency budget support  to rescue the country’s ailing economy, millions of tax payers money is being spent on hotel bills for the president, according to an invoice published in the Freedom Newspaper.

According to the invoice covering between 30th January and 3rd February, the cost of running the Gambia’s new presidency at the Kairaba Hotel has cost the tax payers D563,750.00.

Between the above period, records shows that D15,000 was spent on mineral water and D125,000 on breakfast including coffee, tea, juice, hot snacks and sandwiches.

D148,750 was also spent to feed the president and 34 other people.  D850 was paid for each individual for for every  lunch which included a selection of hot food including fish, meat or chicken courses, pasta station, assorted vegetables, rice, potatoes and fruits.

The Office of the President also paid D175,000 to use the hotel’s main conference room, Jaama Hall, while D100,000 was paid for using communication rooms  2, 4, 5 and 6.

The hotel did not charge for breakfast and dinner for the president’s security team and for the use of three offices by the Vice President and two others.

The huge spending on the presidency is likely to anger many Gambians living on less than one US Dollar a day who had massively voted for change.

During his election campaign, Mr Barrow accused his predecessor of living a flamboyant lifestyle and wasting millions of tax payers money on festivities. He promised to introduce responsible spending and financial discipline in the heart of government.

  1. Come on man. Stop this unnecessary ludicrous spending on yourself and your servants and get to work on getting the poor humble Gambians out of poverty and with some of their own food in their bellies. Hoping you were going to be a better man this. Hold on yo your Lady Vice President. She has the right idea and appears not afraid to fight for what the Gambian people want. Get on with it now and stop dilly dallying about.(From an English white gambian – or that is what I call myself!)

  2. Mohamed Gai-Baldeh

Well, this is the beauty of Independence, democracy and transparency. Gambians, after 22 years of torture can now come out in public forum and make their views heard. Yes, whilst we have been suppressed for so long and left with a bankrupt government, I will appeal that we embark on fact finding rather that make irresponsible accusations on the new government. It’s is just too early to draw conclusions to a government that hasn’t been even properly inaugurated and sworn in. Let’s give them a chance, after all these guys took the bull by the horns by confronting a ruthless killer to liberate all us.

This is the time for us to combine efforts and make suggestion to new government rather than criticize them. Let the criticism wait until we have something to evaluate and criticize on..please!!!!

    • Mohamed, I agree with most of what you’ve said, however neither Barrow nor any other member of the coalition liberated Gambia. Gambia was liberated by the hundreds of thousands of ordinary citizens who went out an vote to end tranny. Power is very intoxicating so we should be very careful not to make our current leaders think we owe them. We should constructively criticise them because that will keep them on their toes. And it will help establish a healthy relationship between the politicians and the electorate.

  3. Pa he is the president.
His life is more important than paying millions in the hotel.
What happens in the Gambia before will never repeat itself.
Even if the coilation government didn’t act Gambians will definitely act.
If you don’t want people to dispatch your newspapers please leave the coilation government alone.
Some of your type should be eliminated from the sociaty onces for all.

    • AHGN!……………? This sounds like the ghost of the Xed nia or when The Mad Professor gets out of control and starts talking the ‘six feet deep’.

    • Baba, it is true that President Barrow’s life is more important than millions of Dalasis but we must ask questions like could he have the same or similar services somewhere else at a cheaper rate and how long does he need to use the facilities for? We should not rely on “Insha Allah” for his official residence and office to be functional. The contractors carrying out any renovation work there must be given a strict time frame and penalty clauses written into their contracts for failure to meet datelines. Baba perception is very important, therefore President Barrow should try and do his utmost to ensure Gambians have a very positive perception of his government. Someone in the government should come out and explain to the people what really is going on. Their silence will create a fertile environment for their detractors to spread false rumours in order to misinform the population.

      • Eva, Mbucha, Penda Chorro Sarr

Agreed; He should reduce his spending.

Glad to read that journalists are reporting his spending. Please let’s not discourage the media from reporting facts. The invoices etc… are plain and simple to see.

      • @Buba,
”It takes only the good to do nothing” if i quote you right….., is exclusively colloquial? or…

Nonetheless, thanks for the SOMETHING of yours above that rhymes will with ‘GOOD’. Can’t give a better advice to the Barrow administration than this, for this matter.

  4. Africa and African politicians are always the same, honestly not surprised Again new few years will be talking about the corruption as we all know,, remember O J ?? Missing $11m blaming the outgoing president etc

  5. A concerned Gambian!!!!!
It’s true that the life of a president is hugely important thus deserve every possible protection affordable to the nation. However, with all the love of my country and the due respect any person occupying the highest seat on the land deserve, I am with the view that since H E has highly likely lived a healthy and quite comfortably in his own home, could it not cost less for him to continue living there with security revamped around his home and immediate surrounding as well as in the entire village/community? If that is too down to earth as it may sound, could H E not have used the presidential villas built to house the visiting heads of states for the ECOWAS summit some years ago? Or have they all crumbled down and unfit for use by H E?
I may be wrong but in my view it is not about the size, beauty, class or anything else of the structure H E occupies that makes a difference, and as such I fail to consider those important here. My consideration is mainly security, if that can b met in a less expensive/luxurious premises, he could have opted for that and he would have already stamped an indelible mark on the pages of Gambian History (more so the coalition) for being so down to earth to save the country and the poor tax payers.
Great people are not always remembered by the type of expensive life style but by doing normal things slight differently for a good reason (reasons which are not in short supply in The Gambia currently). Let’s just look within Africa to see those considered by many as great leaders and why? Certainly it won’t be the office complex they occupied, food they eat, clothes they wear or fleet of cars they command! It is certainly about the actions, ways of life, thinking lines or thinking outside the box, refusing to copy for the sake of it but being themselves ………. The list goes on!!!
Tanzania & South Africa ( Julius Nyerere & Nelson Mandela) will definitely come to mind for many reasons but for their regards for others not themselves and self discipline (selflessness and down to earth life style)they chose to live. see for yourself where history places such leaders!
Could our new breed of leaders emulate such people and earn even bigger places for themselves in the Pages of history! Could the change in Gambia and elsewhere in Africa give birth to another Nyerere & Mandela?
I wish and pray the answer can be an emphatic YES!!! I will continue to hope and pray as I believe it is possible!!!!!

  6. This is just gossip and an inflamatory story. How do you expect the President to live as the first citizen of the Gambia, when the state house was bugged with nefarious chemicals intended to kill its occupants? That has to be taken care of first bebe footed by the government before talking about the inevitable bills anyway. Do you expect the head of state to be housed in a motel? Or use his private accomodations for the states day to day affaires?
Let us be more disciplined and realistic and stop fanning dissentful arguements,we have more to think about than nosing into the privacy of others, because this is what it amounts to. Attitude change, talk about what prompted the President to be Housed in a Hotel in his country, are you informed or have the least clue why?

  7. Eva, Mbucha, Penda Chorro Sarr

I just covered the amount the president has spent into US$ and to me it does not seem to extravagant given the calibre of people he is hosting.

Still a good idea to watch that pot of money. Thank to the media.

  8. IS GAMBIA A SENEGALESE VASAL STATE OR AN INDEPENDENT SOVEREIGN STATE? PATRIOTIC GAMBIANS NEED ANSWERS FROM THE CURRENT GOVERNMENT:

The Adama Barrow, Mai Fatty, Ousainou Darbo Regime of the Current Era (CE), are in a Pickle of Hot dogs, Sausage, Animal intestines and a good doze of Stink. The Stink comes from the fact that the Adama Barrow, Mai Fatty and Ousainou Darbo Regime Reflexsively, Amateurishly And Opportunistly, with Contempt toward The National Interest and Security of the Gambia, bargained and Contracted away the Economic and Political Sovereignty of the Gambia to their Benefactor “Uncle” Macky Sall of Senegal. The ECOWAS/ECOMIG FORCE which is in Reality is a Senegalese Government Conceived, Pushed forward, Implemented, Controlled and Led by Senegal’s Macky Sall and his Clique of Francophone Hegemonist, hell bent on Proscribing and Totally Colonizing the Gambia. It is No secret within Successive Senegalese Presidents and Governments’ that, their Long Term Day time and Nocturnal Dreams have been the Subjugation, and even Forceful Annexation of the Gambia to exploit its Natural Resources and Geo-political Position. The Senegalese Government and Officials have always harboured a Marriage between Senegal and the Gambia and Failing to gain a Reciprocal RESPONSE from the Gambia, any Means to Achieve this Objective and Goal is Welcomed and would be Appreciated Appreciated. The Insidious and Cynical goal and objective is for Senegal to Use the Gambia like they have done with Cassamance for Decades on as an Economic Colony to Exploit to the Maximum for the Benefit and Enjoyment of the Northern part of SENEGALESE Establishment. The Current Occupation of the Gambia by the Senegalese Government through the Cover of ECOWAS and its Military Intervention Force, ECOMIG FORCE, is the repeat of the 1981 Joof-Jawara Regimes Opportunistic Marriage which in turn Ushered in or Forced upoin the Gambia, the Defunct Senegambia Confederation. Apologists who would portray themselves as “Critics” would say, wait a minute Sidi, “the Timber in question or in “Limbo” is allegedly from Senegal, therefore, Senegal is the one being “exploited” and not the Gambia. To this uninformed Kneejerk and Reflexsive need to Defend President Adama Barrow and his Clique’s “Contract” of the Gambian Sovereignty and Independence to the Senegalese Government, is the Potential, Salient and Relevant Major Real Crimes and Misdeminors Committed by Adama Barrow and his Clique of Mai Fatty and Ousainou Darbo Regime. The Origin, Destination and Determination of the Chain of Custody of the SAIDTimber would not have been in the hands of the Senegalese ECOMIG FORCE General’s Responsibility who Does Not have a Mandate to Impound, Cease and Detain Legal Business Transactions within the Boundaries of the Gambia, even if the Commodities or Goods are Suspected to have been dispatched from Cassamance. This is a Role the Gambia Police Force are Authorized and Mandated to Carry out within the Boundaries of the Gambia. It is Not the Job or Mandate of a Foreign Military Intervention Force/ECOMIG’S SENEGALESE General or his Henchmen, Aided and Abetted by the Lack luster record, the Irresponsible Behavior and Actions or Inaction of Adama Barrow and his Clique’s Behind Closed Hotel Doors Contract and Selling of the Gambia and its Sovereignty to Senegal and Macky Sall. The results of the Blind Hatred, the Vile Vitriol and the Irational Cowardly the Fear of the SECOND REPUBLIC’S by “Men” and Women GAMBIANS Voted for to Lead and with all Truth and Reality, have not been Competent nor Reassuring in their Execution of the Gambian People’s Work. While Adama Barrow and his Clique Behind Closed Hotel Doors Spending Millions of Dalasis’ Contracts with Hotels both in Senegal and Now in the Gambia, Should be of grave Concern to all GAMBIANS regardless and despite their Party Politics. As I write this piece, the National Security Adviser to President Trump has Retired due to the issues of Contravening of the established Constitutional Democracy. There are Salient Questions to ask the newly minted Minister of Interior, Mai Fatty. His Portfolio and Office is incharge of the Boundaries, Internal Security and Safety of the Gambian people, Legal affairs of the Gambia and Local Governments, as well as the Law Enforcement Units and or Departments Operating within the Boundaries of the Gambia, Should be held accountable and Encouraged to Hold a Press Conference Now, to inform and explain who gave the Authorization for the Senegalese ECOMIG FORCE General to Interdict, Cease and Detain iligally Gambian Citizens/People and their reportedly legal Property, in this case Timber. This is and Should be the role of the Gambia Police Force, Customs Officials and other associated Law Enforcement Units of the Gambia and Not Senegalese General under the Cover of ECOWAS/ECOMIG FORCE in the Gambia. I am not Belittling the need for Mai Fatty to “Trot” about at the Mile 2 Prison Complex for a Tour and at the same time engage in Self-service, Self-promotion Photo-Up Pre- packaged Event. He should Now follow up with that and make Tangible Sustained Reform and Improvements he louded to the Press. If this a SHOW for it and in itself, then I will be right to point out that, while Mai Fatty was busy perfecting his Potential Circus Maximus SHOW for the Press at the Mile 2 Prison Complex, and Adama Barrow and his Clique were busy Stuffing themselves with all the Hotel Kitchen can Dish out, the Real and True Rulers of the Current Era Gambia under the Decree of the Senegalese Government’s “Governor General” who Interdicted, Stopped, Detained and Confiscated Gambian Property and Citizens without apparent reason or Cause. Yet, the President, Adama Barrow, nor his Designated Authorities authorized to be in Charge of the Gambia’s Interior, Minister of the Interior Mai Fatty has been Silent on the Matter. Either Gambia is an Independent Sovereign State, or it is Not. If it is an Independent And a Constitutional Democractic Sovereign State, then it Must Reprimand the Unlawful Act of the Senegalese ECOMIG FORCE General with reference to the Timber Case which some might be tempted to Call “Timber Gate”. GAMBIANS would Not Accept, Nor Sit Helplessly while Adama Barrow and his Clique’s Bargain and Contract Away Gambian Citizens’ Civil and Individual Rights Derived from the 1997 Constitution as well as their Entitlement to the Benefits and Rights Reserved to them by Birth or Naturalization. This issue should Not be Approached, Nor Seen as a Party Politics or Ethnic driven attempt to Divide and Silence those who dare Raise Salient Questions and Constructive Engagement and Criticism. Mr. PRESIDENT and Mai Fatty, please come out from the Hotel Doors and Clarify what the Current Era Gambian Political Dispensation is? Are we a Vasal and Colonized State Under Uncle Macky Sall and Senegal?

The Majority Patriotic Gambians Need and Want Answers.

    • I think you made some points though a bit emotional ones. The Ecomig is not to enforce law in the Gambia neither the General can assume a senegalese custom officer’s duty, much more in foreign territory. The revelations with regards to mile2 conditions are very shocking and shameful only an accomplice of such crimes would say it is a publicity show.

    • So much rubbish. The ECOWAS enforcement forces would not have stepped foot on Gambian soil if your criminal God father didn’t attempt to thwart the will of The Gambian People. Have you got any words of condemnation for his criminal behaviour ?

Who says the directive to clamp down on illegal logging of timber, a past time of your criminal God father, did not come from the Office of the President ?

Where is your evidence that the general and his men acted by themselves ?

Where is your evidence that the team that stopped and detained the lorries did not include Gambian security personnel, as it has abundantly been stated that the local and foreign forces are working together very well ?

Rather than berate Hon. Mai Fatty for embarking on what you shamelessly called a “photo-op”, can I ask you whether you have any criticism for the way your wicked and evil God father abused and dehumanised prisoners at Mile 2 ?

To be honest Mr Sidi N. Bojang, I don’t even require an answer from you. Your behaviour and attitude alone here makes you a disgrace to Gambia and humanity. The words “patriotic Gambians” should not even be conceived by your daft, callous and insensitive mind, never mind be uttered by your loud, loose mouth.

Do us a favour please : either talk sense and execute your civic duty, or shut the fxxk up. Please !!!!

  9. Time for free buffet,, just a shame personality.poor country like Gambia with a big dark hole budget accept unnecessary spending ?? Time for mr Kandeh

  11. Too emphatic and sounding pro-colonialist. Who knows what who or how…

  12. Good Governance Half mollon dollar a week without adding the expenses of personal security that cost more than a million dollars a week, and that because we are On bankrupt. is the economic crisis ,,,, we will pay triple price for the the expenses because we won the champion cup he he he.

    • #peace= , just when I thought you can’t suprise me anymore you came up with more stupid comments. I know your grasp of English language is poor but your arithmetic is even worst. Go and do the maths again before making false claims. You are out of your depth so I suggest you give your pea size brain a rest.

      • #peace=, you keep dropping the bricks anyway. The kind of devout Muslim who spends half the holy time match-betting, is far worst in contrast to politicians going to watch a football match on saturday. Even the masses of laymen know you the creepy kind of #peace=, is too awful to write a word in their name. Poverty, bad health, illiteracy etc., all can be easily curbed in a society, a country, by the intelligent efforts and steadfastness of her sound-minded citizens, but her ill-hearted one’s contempt and exerted grugdefulness towards common good cause is a dangerous condition of those one’s hearts, that takes more than ‘hard’ to heal.

  13. Bark and Bark and Bark Sidi Bojang that’s what mad rabid dogs do before they get the vets mercy injection of death. You can bark your guts out and that would not change a damn thing. The new dispensation will not be the liking of those blighted by tribal hatred or bigotry.Where were you Sidi Bojang during the 22 years of Yahya Jammeh’s misrule, when Gambians were treated worst than those in the slave ships, in the hands of Yahya and his killers? Where were you when Yahya and his gold digging bitch were using our sovereign wealth as personal pay check? Where was your outrage when our people are kept in those barbaric conditions in Mile 2? The answer is simple Sidi. You are just a myopic ignorant bigot who is obsessed with the Mandinkas and now Senegal. You are ignorant to the knowledge of yourself as an African, ignorant to the knowledge of your country and its people. If you know your history before the Europeans came to our shores, maybe you will be more tolerant and accommodating towards Senegal and its people than your ill conceived rants about anything Senegalese.
Secondly it is incredibly sad to see people like you, irrelevant you maybe condemning a government barely formed. A government that is fundamentally praised around the world for their readiness to create a society based on the rule of law and good governance, unlike the totalitarian despotic rule of their predecessor.
Your flamboyant use of English grammar, with references to topics not akin to our discourse went far to show how petty and shallow you are. The national security adviser to Trump resigned because he misled the vice president and the president not because of contravening established constitutional democracy. Put the facts straight or shut the fuck up for God sake.
False narratives a’int gonna win this discourse,so lets stick to facts and only facts. Your ramblings is lacking facts but self righteousness and
hints of arrogance of the highest order. Come down to planet earth and communicate with the eloquence that an average Gambian will understand and digest rather than pomposity.
    Shaloum! Shaloum!

        • I have never laughed like this in my life. @Sidi. You are severely disgruntled and bitter like a child broke his dear toy.
Anyway, @Tafel says, ‘watch your English’!- l would like to tell you, WATCH YOUR VERY OWN FOUL MOUTH! Gambia is the new land democracy of rule of law, of milk and honey.

If you are intellectual and honest, you can serve at any public office irrespective of social
          classing, identity or religion.
If you are a farmer, you don’t have to be living in fear that, a president can come one day and seize your farm and have yourself too working for him in the same farm.
If you are a micro-businessman.., you relax because the president of the new government is not overshadowing every other business in the country by selling everything including flipflops and colanuts.
The END of this horrible terror regime of Jammeh and cohorts that some are hell bent on blindly glofrifying, augurs peace and prosperity for all Gambians, including detractors like yourself. The new government is very matured that it sits with former white-gloved killers and villains of the former APRC regime. Isn’t this just impressing to you?

  14. Natty, Sidi is a pseudo intellectual, his commentaries are full of wrong syntaxes. The big words he fills his commentaries with never supports his arguments because he uses them inappropriately in the wrong places. You are giving him an impossible task by asking him to write simple concise grammar because he lacks the intellectual skills to do that. Just let him ramble as usual that’s all he can do as he is out of his depth now. Am guessing he thinks in his native language and translates it directly into English that’s why his arguments are convoluted. Perhaps if we could understand whatever language he is thinking in we may understand what he is trying to say.

  15. Sidi,
Why can’t you just get the fuck out of this NASTY DREADFUL Natty Dread? Where was s/he during the barbaric and horrendous 30+ years of the PPP misrule in our country? Where was this NASTY DREADFUL animal to compare anything President Jammeh did with that dysfunctional PPP government that retarded our progress in their stupid interpretation of “democracy” and “human rights” ?
Who has told this NASTY DREADFUL Natty Dread that we hold grudges against the Senegalese? We know beyond any reasonable doubt that we are brethren and that the conolial separation of our territories was the only responsible factor in our territorial and foreign language differences. But at the same time we always want to uphold our sovereignty and independence as a non-catalyst nation that only seeks partnership with mutual respect.
This was not forthcoming from Senegal, hence our right to perceive them as adversaries. That’s the only country that has on THREE occasions invaded a neighbouring country. In 1979, Senegal raided our borders from the Baddibu area which Ex-President Jawara vehemently deplored and denounced. In 1981, they invaded our country to reinstate a single man, Ex-President Jawara and again in 2017 to instal a puppet, inept and incompetent government with a semi-illiterate “president”.
Time will prove us right. That this bitty government whch is receiving money from all areas of the globe will be more corrupt than the Ex-President Jawara regime.

    • Babu, what is a non-catalyst nation? Stop using words inappropriately. Senegal never invaded Gambia. Try and understand the meanings of words before using them. Senegal re-instate the then democratically elected president of the Gambia in 1981 after that idiot Kukoi plunge the country into anarchy and chaos. And I am glad that they did because we would have been subjected to the brutality of an authoritarian dictator far earlier and for much longer than 22yrs. I would not bother to comment on their recent involvement in the Gambian crises because all sound minded people know why they got involved. If Barrow is semi-illiterate then Jammeh must be a complete illiterate.

    • I remember you (Babu Soli) claiming and predicting an overwhelming victory for the APRC at the polls before the elections ? You have disappeared from the Kaironews forum, without even congratulating President Barrow, and of course, those of us on his side, or have I missed your congrats ?
Talking about corruption, did you see the fleet of super cars that, a once upon a time poorly paid lieutenant, turned squatter at state house, planned to run away with ? I bet he earned them legitly, won’t you agree ? You people never cease to amaze me…

  16. As i said earlier Babu Soli, you are just a myopic bastard, blinded to all that happened during the brutal regime of Yahya Jammeh, except your lofty praises for a man who tortured, raped and robbed our sovereign wealth.Yes there can’t be any comparison between Jawara’s government of that of Jammeh’s as Jammeh’s government was one man wrecking ball.Jawara was a highly educated statesman while Jammeh was a pauper’s son from a village who enriched himself to the tunes of millions if not billions and called himself professor, doctor and sheik.
Babu Soiled himself,i will come back to you time permitting.

  17. Nasty Dreadful Natty Dread
Come on son/daughter of a bitch and a hound. State your gender so that I can come with the right vocabulary. You must be a bastard toddler at some stage in your horrendous life not to discern the facts about the corrupt and tribalistic tendencies that held the Jawara regime for over 30 years.
An educated man? I decry that adjective and whisk to hell the stupid idiots and dunces like you who saw in Ex-President Jawara an “educated” FELLOW.
AN “EDUCATED” FELLOW WHO WAS UNABLE TO BUILD/CONSTRUCT A DAMN SINGLE HIGH SCHOOL IN 30 YEARS MUCH MORE A UNIVERSITY TO AFFORD HIS CITIZENS THEIR RIGHT TO EDUCATION. President Jammeh saw that people’s right, not as a privilege, that ushered in the state of educational acquisition we are enjoying today. YOU FOOL!
What becomes of a former colonial state that runs 30 years into her independence without a single secondary school(MUCH MORE A UNIVERSITY) from the independence pioneers? Above all, what are secondary and university education to you? How can we improve our social, economic and political strides without higher education? Better read the contribution of higher education in nation building, you feeble object.
A myopic bastard, you brand me, oh come one, you IDIOTIC DUNCE. I have learnt far more than your stupid head can take. You never learn to live up with divergent views, which cracks your STUPID head into believing that all should go along with your inept and incompetent government with a semi-illiterate “president” at the helm. YOU BEAST!

    • Please guys keep it civil. Remember we are bound to respect each other, be civil please.

    • Natty Dread may come for you later but what I would like to call you is; @Babu Soli; son/daughter of saintly father and mother in his own presence and suprvision. You got mad because someone called the X first bitch a BITCH?
The heavily thickened bricks of the university and the new high school buildings must be the reason why English language got so poor in the country that a former primary6 speaks much better english than grade 13ners. Your boss should have stayed until Buhari gets to him. He’ll ‘bangle’ your boss’s wrist together and walk him around Banjul for his victims to see. YOU ARE THE BEAST @Babu therefore, welcome to the human space where human life matters first of all.

    • Look Babu Soli, (and the rest) many people, even staunch supporters, would agree that the PPP administration, under Sir Dawda Jawara, was not perfect, and did not deliver as much as it could have done during its 30 year rule, especially given the favourable global political and economic situation at the time.

I personally find it hard to understand why an independent country that had so much work to do, did not prioritise higher education and skills training in their development plans much earlier than they did, but I get frustrated and even angry at times, when people like you propagate the view that Yaya Jammeh’s 22 year misrule was more beneficial to our country than Jawara’s, much more so, when developments in education, broadcasting and infrastructure are cited.

Undoubtedly, the realisation of certain development aspirations, like the university, state TV, roads rehabilitation, etc, were achieved during the Jammeh era, and there is no point disputing this fact, but to attribute and credit all of these achievements to only Yaya Jammeh and his APRC is completely misleading, utterly FALSE and absolutely DISHONEST.
It’s like giving all credit to the roofers for a magnificent and beautiful structure, disregarding all the hard work that preceeded the roofing stage and the people involved. What an ignorant, simplistic and uninformed approach to analysing our development history. A more informed approach is required to place our development successes in their proper perspective and assign credit fairly.

In education, for example, the institutions, structures and resources that formed the bedrock of Gambia’s education system were conceived, developed, created, resourced and maintained by the PPP Administration well before the emergence of the A (F)PRC regime.
So, we cannot and should not talk about the university, without first talking about the resources and institutions (Gambia College, MDI, GTTI,NARI,RDI,etc) that made it possible, most, if not all of which, were already in place by 1994.

The economic, financial and governance institutions and structures that give a state its identity were all established, well resourced and fully functional by 1994. And I can go on and on and on and on….

So please, refrain from this futile attempts to rewrite our country’s history. Criticise the alliance if you have a genuine cause to do so, but don’t propagate Yaya Jammeh’s madness as better than Jawara’s administration because you will not succeed.

  18. With all your education Babu Soli, you are still an unenlightened educated fool and pity there is no cure for foolishness. You are a son of a lousy cunt who would jump over dead bodies, the disappeared, the tortured and the raped to praise the so called lofty achievements of Yahya Jammeh. No praises can wash away the innocent blood spilled by Jammeh and his henchmen.
With all your education you are a vassal to the interest of those you purported not to have time for ”the colonialist and imperialist”. You stupid self hating economic migrant, who will sell his dick to the devil. Whether you like it or not fool, this is the new dispensation now in the Gambia and haters like you can go and wank as that’s all you nasty nocturnal false prophets can do. Wank, wank and wank.
Myopic son of a cunt Babu Soli(Babu soiled himself) Bloodclat educated fool.
    Shaloum! Shaloum!

    • Babu Soli, Pay no mind to the Jamaican Wannabe, the so-called “Natty Dread”. He is proof that all Countries and Families should have access to Family Planning Contraceptives so as to Not need the Malthusian theory of Population Control. It would appear that this Natty Dread of the Gambia is a Surplus Signifying and Contributing nothing Substantative to the general Welfare of the Human species. Let the derelict run his diarrhea mouth. He and his fellow travelers such as Bourne and Buba Sanyang, and others are blinded by Ethnic Group Interest Politics wrapped up in Decades and Centuries of False Positive Narratives of “Mansaya”. “Mansaya” that had a large footprint on Creating and generating expectations, but Short on Delivery of any Significant or Meaningful Development, Modernity and Progress, until the Second Republic came on the Scene. I wish Adama Barrow and his Clique would prove the Contrary to the Rule, when compared to the First Republic of Jawara’s 32 Years of Regressive management of the Gambian State. I am not saying what I am saying to praise a man, woman or an individual. I am saying what can be observed and experienceed as Facts and Truths, if only men and women would open their Hearts and Minds, not their Skulls.

  19. Guys I know emotions are high but lets keep each others’ parents out of it please. Lets tear each others’ arguments into shreds with counter arguments but keep it clean. No parents please lets keep things between us.

  20. Good governance, not luxury life,,First government in the world using a 5 star hotel as an office while people starve to death ,,, good people Mammah kandeh future head of state . Gambia is not Kuwait or Dubai . Next step is state house on SALE!!!! Because of the luxury life of our leaders

  21. Buba Sanyang,
Nice words but wrong timing. I still have to come HEAVY on that, NASTY DREADFUL BASTARD in non-human flesh called NASTY DREADFUL natty dread!

  22. bax,
You must have missed a lot from me. I continued contributing to show how your bitty “coalition” and inept movement has stolen the booty at the elections and ran behind the neocolonialists for defense. Your undemocratic KAIRO news tabloid has tentatively taken upon itself to censor my posting thus denying you, Bax and other readers from sharing my views. That’s the saddest part of the story from those who preach and prophecy DEMON-CRACY!

  23. NASTY DREADFUL NATTY DREAD AND COMPLICE BASTARD BOURNE,
I was contemplating diving my opinion between you two NOUGHTS, but it’s woRthless. Because here are two innocuous elements flocking together in trying to share a common horrendous destiny. Why divide them?
While your sterile praises for your incompetent “coalition” government continues unabated on line, Barrow and his clique are intelligently sorting our things with the old cadres of the President Jammeh administration to make a headway. They are more subtle-minded than you online erratic nincompoops and stupid BASTATRDS.
Nasty Dreadful Natty, you are already nasty to soil in your cunt, otherwise…. but if you are male, I’ll still send you to your hound father to push it into your nasty asshole, you homosexual beast!
Bourne, who made a mistake in giving birth to a filthy borne-ass like you? Answer and I will come back to you, sa-na-fa-bitch!

  24. ”Babu soiled himself” i am done with you faggot. I don’t wanna waste my time on an unenlightened educated fool you are,nor on your pompous village idiot friend Sidi Bojang.
    Shaloum! Shaloum! Shaloum.

  25. What ever our political views are, remember our unity, peace and security are our basic foundation to the lasting development and the reinforcement of our democracy. We should do our best to defeat any form of corruption, without which we are bound to fail.

  26. @ Tafel= I agree, this is turning to look like bunch of young boys playing alone. We can have a civil discourse.

  27. Rambling Sidi, you need to ask your therapist to increase the number of your sessions and dosage of your meds. This obsession with Mandinkas is really detrimental to both your mental and physical health. Sidi, like you, me and Bourne are travellers but there’s where the similarity between you and us ends. For in our travels we have educated ourselves, learned about other cultures, broaden our knowledge base and gained wisdom whilst you have been stuck in your archaic mentality and has ever since been travelling with it. We have grown into the finish product, a true patriotic gem for our country whilst you remained bitter and twisted. We have developed the essential skills required to critically analyse and appraise any given situation or event to form an informed intellectual opinion. This is why our opinions almost always becomes part of a general consensus whilst yours occupy a little dark damp comer in your own utopian world. The “Mansaya” you alluded to is something that Mandinkas always achieve over the past few centuries from Foday Kabba, you remember that Mansa don’t you? Let me jug your memory in case you have forgotten him or your pea size brain blocks it out due to the terror his name invokes in you, he was the one who forces your ancestors to convert to Islam or he breaks their arms. I know that’s the grudge you still harbour against Mandinkas but don’t worry it’s not going to happen again. Your are almost all Muslims now so it’s mission accomplished. Why do you think Yahya Jammeh adds “Babili Mansa” to his name? The idiot had tried to pass himself as a Mandinka by claiming that he is related to Tamba Jammeh family of Illiassa but no one bought that lie so he took up a Mandinka title hoping that will make him more identifiable with Mandinkas but it didn’t work hence his outbursts against Mandinkas. Just like you, all that he wanted was to be accepted by Mandinkas as one of them. Sidi, it was 60% of Gambians who voted that rejected Yahya Jammeh, Gambians’ dislike for Yahya is across tribal lines. You keep castigating Mandinkas for voting for Barrow but turn a blind eye to Foni voting overwhelmingly for Jammeh and they have done so consistently for the past five elections. It is ironic that you quote Malthus because like him, your predictions will never happen.

  28. Babu Soli, Natty, guys please lets tone things down. I am appealing to you both, please leave parents out of this. Guys whether we know it or not there are young impressionable Gambians both in the diaspora and in the Gambia who rely on our arguments and counter arguments to broaden their own understanding of events happening in the Gambia. We will be doing them and ourselves a great disservice if we punctuate entire paragraphs with expletives. Lets be sensitive to the feelings of the wider reading population. Thank you all.

  29. I am not in support of the expenditure that is being incurred by the government, but I am curious to know whether those who are raising objections really believe that amounts being spent would be lesser, if the President was to move into the state house.
In case we don’t know, the state house is pretty much the equivalent of a five star hotel and is run like one. There won’t be much difference in the amounts being spent to maintain the President, his family and support staff even at the state house.
The truth is, like the rest of the world, we have a high maintenance presidency and its been like that from the beginning. Unfortunately, this is the norm in politics and statehood today globally. The position of leadership has become a parasitic institution that gobbles up huge chunks of national budgets annually, throughout the world.
The answer is to move away from monarchical and parasitic institutions of leadership, to humble, servant of the people type of institutions, and in our case, not many parties, both in the first and second republics, are committed to such a radical shift. In fact, only PDOIS is committed to such a type of leadership institution amongst the Gambian opposition and political office aspirants.
We therefore need to understand the nature of the alliance, the sacrifices undertaken to make it possible, and the compromises required for success.
Obviously, Mr Adama Barrow, flag bearer and president, did not emerge from a vacuum. He came from a political background and set up, with its own ideas and beliefs about the type of leadership they subscribe to, and as the chief executive and ultimate decision maker, these will most likely be reflected in how he runs his government.
Gambians should exercise patience during the transition period, but also use the opportunity to watch and scrutinise the actions of the members of the alliance government, gauge their over all performance against our individual expectations, and choose the ones we think would address our problems, at the next poles.
Some of us have argued here in the past that some on the anti-Jammeh camp were only interested in Regime change but would keep the same system, except the rampant rights abuses.
Many people have not even entertained any desire to discuss anything during the alliance negotiations, except regime change. We got the option we wanted, so let’s be patient.

  30. Poor Gambia A government of 7 mini parties and novices to use a 5 star hotel as state house new kuwait ??? Personally interest over public interest what a shame!!
