Gambia: President Barrow To Pay Three-Day Official Visit To Senegal

Gambian President Adama Barrow arrives for the swearing-in ceremony and the Gambia’s Independence Day in Bakau.

(JollofNews) – Gambia’s president Adama Barrow will arrive in Dakar, Senegal on Thursday for a three-day official visit.

During his stay in Dakar, President Barrow will hold discussion on bilateral and other issues with his Senegalese counterpart President Macky Sall before addressing the media at mid-day on the same day.

Mr Barrow, 52, who was elected in last December’s election, was also sworn-in as Gambia’s third president last month at the Independence Stadium, Bakau.

Barrow’s victory over ex-president Jammeh in December’s election is seen by foreign donors as a new chance for human rights and the rule of law to be better respected in the tiny west African nation.

  1. Gambia and Senegal we are one family , but Senegal has never respected The Gambia always makes things more difficult especially if we talk about the border issues , To visit Touba does not make sense because it goes against the Sunnah, to build bridges is very bad for our interests as economical and as security, but you have to do so to make the boss Macky happy , mini Senegambia !!!

    • Yeah Peace, say it all if see something wrong. It will help to make changes for better people both Senegal and gambia as we are the same people.

    • @ # peace= Please don’t be a paranoia. Gambia and Senegal have mutual strategic security and economic interest. Particularly is best for Gambia to maintain a good relationship with Senegal.

  2. President Barrow has just been in Senegal for several weeks and he should now concentrate in Gambia to resolve all the ills and crimes committed by His Excellency General, Doctor, Sheikh, Professor etc Jammeh rather than running to Senegal every few days

  3. Gambia can continue to protect her interest while maintain a good relationship with Senegal. Think about it, it just make sense for The Gambia and Senegal to cooperate in a mutual economic and security interest.

    REPONSE A PEACE

SENEGAL HAS NO HEGEMONIC VISITS IN THE GAMBIA

For years the energetic His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Doctor Yahya Abdul-Azziz Jemus Junkung Jammeh Nasirul Deen Babili Mansa has carried out hostile actions against the state of Senegal as
    • Providing the rebels diolas of the Casamance with weapons
    • By organizing large-scale trafficking in tree trunks and drugs
    • By refusing Senegal to have a geographical continuity by not constructing the Bridge over the Gambia River
    • Gambia’s rustic President Diola has allied himself with the hereditary enemy of Senegal, Mauritania.
    • With all these grievances Senegal could have done as Tanzania with Uganda from Idi Amine invade the Gambia
Our country has for years suffered in silence not reacting to respect the sovereignty of the Gambian state.
As for the bridge over the Gambia, its construction will first serve the interests of the Gambia in
    • Linking the two northern and southern shores of The Gambia
    • By increasing transit at the transgambian level
As for President Barrow’s visit to Touba, it is normal for all Senegambian ethnic groups who have marabouts except diolas who belong to an egalitarian society with total lack of hierarchy, a horde society
It’s normal that “Peace” you do not like Touba sure you’re one of those who do not know the horse in Senegambia.
With the two distinct sovereign states Presidents Barrow and Macky will promote in Senegambia a space of peace detribalized co coitusity.

  6. Respect is neither forced nor begged for; brother it is simply earned. May be we lost respect, among other things, because Jamus– I mean Babili the digraced dictator used to dash our money to mborrs (wresteler) , musician etc from Senegal the fool he is. It’s logical to that a state headed by fools may be full of fools. No! Senegal respects and love all good Gambians. Don’t talk of Touba, you go to your jalang (god-idol) without restriction, so let the gentleman visit the worthy city. The bridge was agreed to by babili ( the wonderful bridge builder) check the records. Good for us or not that bridge would be ours– Gambia’s, West Africa’s and Africa’s. Long live regional integration. Bon voyage your excellency.

  7. The Gambia is currently a protectorate of Senegal which itself is a French colony. The CDEAO is only a leitmotif to allow Senegal to annex the small Gambia via a peulh fringe of its population. This CDEAO, which is also strong when it comes to intervening in the Gambia, has recourse to Chad to ensure its protection against BOKOHARAM. The current Gambian president is naive and does not resemble a statesman.
Macky Sall who reiterates that the Gambia and Senegal are one and the same people. This logic is why he does not apply it to the Sahrawi, whose Moroccan sovereignty he recognizes on their territories, though greater than the Gambia. Or it is unaware that the Saharawi populations are composed of the same tribes that inhabits the current Mauritania or it is the racism of the Senegalese who controls the policy of their state.

    • Ahmed MUHAMMED…..Are you claiming that the Sahrawi, whose claim of sovereignty is limited to only the Western Sahara, and whose population, I believe, is less than a million people, are “greater than The Gambia ?”

SENEGAL CAN NOT IMPROVE WHAT HAPPENS IN HIS VENICE

The Gambia is not a protectorate of Senegal. For 22 years the Gambia has violated our national sovereignty by deforesting our country by arming rebel groups attacking Senegal. Yet, wishing to respect the independence and the national legality of the Gambia, Senegal never attacked this country which was allied with the Mauritania’s racist anti-black regime
It is Mali which is under French military tutelage. Throughout the Gambian crisis Senegal showed that it had the autonomous means of military projection.
It is vital for Senegal’s interests that the Gambia be prosperous, an example of democracy and a country of freedom.
The Senegal could not live in peace with its neighbor governed by the wrestler Diola His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Doctor Yahya Abdul-Azziz Jemus Junkung Jammeh Nasirul Deen Babili Mansa who treats AIDS and poisons wizards.
It is absurd that a country within our borders could constitute any obstacle to our security and economic imperatives, but it remains for questions of territorial continuity.
For those who have a historical culture, they will remember the why of the Cuban missile crisis. And more recently, the unrest of the Russians against the NATO missile shield in what they call their nearest alien.
With future oil revenues Senegal will have the means to be a generous donor for the development of the Gambia

  8. Life is reciprocal, when we were in need, the Senegalese played a very important role ensuring that peace is maintained, receiving our refugees, helped in flushing out Babilimansa etc, what is wrong with the President going back to say thank you?

    • Thanks Chacha, your comments make the most sense out of all this brouhaha. How Many Countries In The World haemorrhage Only ONE NEIGHBOR? LET’S STEP BACK AND BIT & GIVE THIS NEW PRESIDENT A CHANCE.

  9. Thanks chacha, your comments make the most sense out of all this brouhaha. How many independent countries in the world have only ONE NEIGHBOR? GIVE THIS NEW PRESIDENT A CHANCE.THANKS

  10. Ladies and Gentlemen, let’s start looking at the positive side of things, the bigger picture and stop the wrangling!
How about tabling and discussing relevant topics on what Senegal and Gambia can do together to promote private investment in the productive sectors of both countries? Bring Senegalese and Gambian entrepreneurs together to jointly invest in agribusiness so both nations can benefit from the synergies to be realized. It is my belief, pegged on to tangibles on the ground, that Senegal has a good lead in many sub sectors that could offer model enterprises to be replicated in The Gambia for the benefit of the teeming number of budding entrepreneurs.
Anyone recall the Thiere Diambarrs, Aja Khaddy, Sowu SOCA, Kombo Dairy, Kombo Meats plus all the vibrant small businesses on the outskirts of Dakar? Let’s start thinking inwards folks!!

  11. Politics is not rocket science. Sometimes too much formal education will deprive folks of simple reasoning. Who moves to a new neighborhood and not stop at the homes around his and greet and meet or offer cola. Barrow going to Senegal makes so much sense and is bound to yield huge dividends for us. We are a part of Senegal and we need to understand that and learn to live together in peace. President Barrow by having excellent relationships with Senegal has shown diplomatic maturity unlike his predecessor with hundred titles and name who is clearly an idiot.
