(JollofNews) – Gambia Ports Authority (GPA) Managing Director Abdoulie Tambadou on
Monday said the second-hand ferries Kansala and Aljamdu were purchased
because the Jammeh regime was looking for cheap popularity.
The GPA boss made this remark while giving his testimony before the
Janneh Commission on the circumstances surrounding the acquisition of
the two ferry boats shunted into a siding for over six years.
Tambadou told the Commission of Inquiry the Office of the President
spearheaded the project in an attempt to contain a public outcry
caused by the difficulties faced by commuters when crossing.
“The ferries were bought without due process,” he said.
He further disclosed that the ferries were purchased at a time when
GPA management was trying to finalize the acquisition of new ferries
that are “suitable to our environment.”
When asked by counsel Amie Bensouda to give the total cost of the
ferries, Tambadou said GPA contribution to the project amounted to
more than one and a half million dalasis.
He could not shed light on how much money Social Security and Housing
Finance Corporation (SSHFC) poured into what appeared to be a ‘white
elephant project.’
The British have a saying for everything….wisdom by experience. In this case it would be ” They couldn’t organise a piss up in a brewery.”
Surely The Barrow government can do better without trying. ?
But maybe its a Gambian condition to endlessly walk around in circles ???
Will it ever get any better ? I don’t think anyone on here knows for sure.
