President Adama Barrow of the Gambia has sacked the country’s head of the civil service.
Habib Saihou Drammeh, who was appointed to the job in January, was sent packing from the job on Friday. No reason (s) was given for his removal but a statement from Mr Barrow’s office said it was done in accordance with provisions of the country’s constitution.
The statement added that Mr Drammeh will now be redeployed to the Foreign service.
He is succeed by Ebrima Camara, permanent secretary at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs.
Mr Drammeh is the third secretary general and head of the Civil Service to work for President Barrow.
He joined the government of President Barrow in December 2017 when he was appointed minister of the Interior, following the sacking of Mai Ahmad Fatty.
In January he was named Secretary General and head of the civil service following the appointment of Dawda Fadera as Gambia’s ambassador to the United States.
Mr Drammeh has previously served as director general of the Gambia Tourism Authority (GTA) and director general of the Gambia Transport Service Commission (GTSC) during the regime of former President Yahya Jammeh. He was later accused of corruption and abuse of office, which he strenuously denied.
Point of correction, Mr Camara is not the permanent secretary of Finance and Economic Affairs but Foreign affairs.
unlucky guy! seems to me a person lacking the astudity and competency to hold such a crucial position.
I must also add that since his appointment as interior minister and SG, his lacklustre appearances have left me with a sense of unprincipled bureaucrats uncommitted to nothing but their salaried positions. A network in the gov’t not necessarily interested in the agenda for which this gov’t was voted in in for.
I hope the new is of different calibre.
