Authorities in the Gambia have ordered the immediate closure of schools and suspended all public gathering in a bid stem the spread of the Coronavirus.
The 21 day closure will affect all public and private schools including universities and local Islamic schools.
All international and local conferences, workshops and seminars to be hosted in the country have also been put on hold.
The Gambia has one confirmed case of Coronavirus but authorities have strengthened measures to prevent the disease from spreading.
The measures includes public awareness through the media and orientating health workers and the strengthening of surveillance at the airport and at various points of entry along the Gambian border.
The public has been encouraged to take sanitary measures, among other precautionary actions and isolation centers and rooms have been prepared also to deal with suspected cases at all major health centres.
