A Gambian activist who was charged with publishing false news has been released on police bail and asked to report back tomorrow.
Madi Jobarteh of Kembujeh village, was summoned to the office of Deputy Police Commissioner Pateh Jallow and asked to clarify some remarks he made to the media last Saturday during a Black Lives Matter protest outside the American Embassy about the killings of Haruna Jatta, Kebba Secka and Ousman Darboe by security officials in the Gambia.
But when he resisted pressure from the police to write a statement and explain his opinion, he was detained and charged.
