The death has been announced of Alhaji Momodou Njie, a former Gambian footballer and deputy major of Banjul City Council.
Mr Njie passed away on Sunday at the age of 72 in neighbouring Senegal where he was receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness.
Born in Banjul in March 1948, Biri Biri who was regarded as the country’s best football of all time played as a right winger for the national team, the Scorpions.
He also played for a number of European teams including Sevilla FC in Spain and Herfølge Boldklub in Denmark.
