President Adama Barrow of the Gambia Wednesday amended restrictions on markets and shopping areas in the country ‘to ease the burden on a cross section of the business community’.
Last week, the president ordered lockdown restrictions on non-food outlets in all markets throughout the country as part of measures to contain the alarming rate of coronavirus transmission in the country
But from Thursday, people trading in non-food products in local markets will be allowed to operate for four hours between 15: 00 hrs and 19:00 hrs except on Sundays.
People trading in food products in market will be allowed to operate between 06:00 hrs and 14:00 hrs except on Sundays.
However, food vendors or shops outside the markets are not affected by the restrictions.
Furthermore, the president said he is allowing all non-food retail outlets located outside of markets throughout the country to resume operation to the public between 06:00am and 15:00 hrs.
The president said his decision to amend the restrictions was made following consultation with Covid-19 experts at the Ministry of Health.
