Please, permit me space in your widely circulated medium to clarify a very serious mischaracterization of my one-sentence statement sometimes last week.
You had asked if The Gambia Government was going to effect its planned increments of Civil Servants’ salaries?
I responded, “all things remaining equal, yes” and I proceeded to outline a number of variables that would eventually dictate the situation.
Significantly, I referenced the raging Russia-Ukraine war and it’s concomitant economic effects on the global economy.
Ergo, I was dumbfounded when civil servants started forwarding me your version asking me to verify its veracity.
Consistent with journalistic ethics of fairness and your medium’s reputation for balance, I’d ask that you publish my account of events to help set the records straight.
