The High Court in Banjul Wednesday sentenced Yankuba Badjie and four other former NIA operatives to death after being found guilty of the murder of Solo Sandeng.
The former spy chief was also alongside Saikou Omar Jeng, Babucarr Sallah, Masire Tamba and Lamin Darboe found culpable of inflicting bodily harm to, among others, Fatoumatta Jawara and Nogoi Njie.
One of the accused persons, Haruna Suso, was meanwhile acquitted and discharged.
Solo Sandeng of the opposition United Democratic Party led a peaceful march for political reform on April 14, 2016, but died in detention shortly after his arrest by state security agents, unleashing a wave of anger among many in the country who voted out Jammeh eight months later.
