Deaths Of Minors In Gunjur Raises Serious Environmental Questions

Two minors drowned in Gunjur on Wednesday as they attempted to gain access to the coastline, JollofNews was informed.

Gunjur is currently in the frontline of environmental carnage as unregulated mining activities continue along the Atlantic coastline.

Natives are losing vast chunk of agricultural lands to the unethical mining practices.

Certain areas of the community have also been de-linked from the beach.

People could not access the shoreline through them thanks to gaping mines.

Meanwhile, the two children reportedly met their deaths in a mine yesterday as they tried to navigate to that part of the Gunjur beach through mines.

The Gambia government’s seeming carefree attitude towards mining in Gunjur could engender irreversible environmental catastrophe for the population.

Aside concerns over the rising levels of the sea and devastations caused to livelihoods by uncontrolled mining in the coastal community, fears have also been raised over the long-term consequences of indiscriminate mining in Gunjur.
