The Director General of the Gambia Prisons Services (GPS) has extended an invitation to Dr. Abubakary Jawara to visit the State Central Prison to see how he can help the penitentiary.
On Friday, Dr. Abubakary Jawara Foundation reached out to the GPS by donating it 25 giant ceiling fans and 50 mattresses for use by the inmates and wardens.
The foundation also donated 71 CCTV cameras to the country’s prisons.
The intervention was sequel to an article published on The Standard newspaper, regarding the conditions at Mile II.
The article followed a visit to the State Central Prison by the Human Rights Committee of the National Assembly.
“We invite Dr. Abubakary Jawara to come to the prison and see for himself what is happening here,” GPS DG Ansumana Manneh said at the presentation of the donated items held at the prison’s administrative building in Banjul.
