President Adama Barrow earlier today, Tuesday, January 17th received in audience a delegation of Africa Women Leaders Network (AWLN) at State House.
The AWLN is a continental movement of women leaders set up by African Union (AU) in collaboration with United Nations (UN) to enhance women’s participation in the transformation and development of the continent through the promotion of agendas 2063 and 2030.
The delegation to State House was led by Fatou Kinteh, Minister of Gender, Children and Social Welfare, who informed the press that the Gambian chapter of the Network is set to be launched on 7th February 2023.
Dr Isatou Touray, former Vice President of The Gambia described the initiative as an inter-generational affair aimed to support young people; particularly young women – to guide them “to take the mantle of responsibility” in making The Gambia a better place.
She said the President has been very receptive to the move and that he promised to support the initiative.
The Network comprises Maimuna Jallow, AWLN The Gambia National Coordinator and Co-Chairperson; Dr Isatou Touray, former Vice President of The Gambia; Fatoumatta Tambajang, former Vice President of The Gambia and Adviser; Aissata De, UNDP Country Representative in The Gambia; Ndey Rose Sarr, UNFPA Country Representative in The Gambia; Matta French, ECOWAS Representative in The Gambia; Sarata Conteh, Chief Executive Officer, GCCI; Rohey Lowe, Lord Mayoress of Banjul; Amie Jallow, member; and Salimatta Touray, Secretary General.
