Firefighters are still battling massive blaze that erupted at Guinea’s petroleum facility. The fire has created giant smoke stretching out across the capital city, raising air quality concerns in Conakry.
A press release issued this morning by the Office of the Prime Minister indicates that the fire engulfed oil storage tanks last night but could not shine a light on the cause of the inferno. The petroleum facility is located in Kaloum, in the heart of Conakry.
The Prime Ministry news dispatch announced series of security measures in the Greater Conakry Area. The entire area is now placed under evacuation order.
The Office of the Prime Minister further indicated that workers from the public service and private sector are ordered to stay at home in the exception of security forces and the medical corps.
As the smoke continues to stretch across the city, government stepped up safety measures in closing down public and private schools.
Conskry’s petrol stations are facing disruptions as authorities have ordered their closure.
Efforts to reach out to government spokesperson remained futile: multiple calls were placed by JollofNews on his cellphone but to no avail.
