A man who was found dead in a plane at Gatwick Airport has been unable to be identified despite “extensive enquiries”.
On Wednesday coroner Joanne Andrews added that the unknown man’s cause of death was hypothermia.
He was discovered in the wheel well of a Tui flight that had come from Banjul in The Gambia on 7 December 2022.
The coroner said: “There is no evidence as to how he became to be within the plane.”
Sussex Police had been working with the High Commissioner for The Gambia, Interpol and HM Coroner to identify the man, who was believed to be in his 20s or 30s.
The 2,760-mile (4,444 km) journey from The Gambia to the UK usually takes about six and a half hours on a direct flight.
