Senegal: Top Police Officer Flagged For HR Concerns

Police Commissioner Khady Fall has been flagged over human abuses as she was set to take up a new job at the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

In a letter dated February 22, 2024 and seen by Jollofnews, renowned Senegalese parliamentarian Guy Marius Sagna reminded UN Special Representative in the DRC about Police Commissioner Khady Fall who has demonstrated a track record of blatant disregard to human rights values.

“MONUSCO should not be used to promote people who are bent on torturing and inflicting inhuman treatment to civilians,” he said in his missive.

According to him, on March 23, 2022 he was part of the group of activists arrested by the police after staging a protest before the Interior Ministry, located in the heart of the capital city Dakar.

“But in the middle of the night, we were woken up by masked men who whisked us away from police headquarter to unknown locations. After torturing some of them, they subsequently decided to steer us into remote areas (50 to 80 km out of Dakar),” he added while indicating they were left without any possibility to get back home.

He then added: “The masked men acted at the direction of Police Commissioner Khady Fall.”

It could be recalled that UN Special Representative Bintou Keita also doubles as the Head of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the DRC (MONUSCO).
