Gambia’s main opposition United Democratic Party (UDP) has been required to obtain a police permit to organise a welcome event for its leader, Ousainou Darboe, who is expected to return from the USA.
Gambian police have stipulated that UDP supporters must secure this permit before gathering to welcome Darboe at the Banjul International Airport and escort him to his official residence.
According to reports, including an approval letter seen by JollofNews, the police granted the permit with specific conditions that must be adhered to by the UDP and its supporters.
This requirement reflects the tense political climate in Gambia, where opposition parties often face significant hurdles in organising public events.
