Gambia’s Barrow Tells Opposition To Wait, Predicts NPP Survival

President Adama Barrow of the Gambia has urged opposition parties to be patient and await their time, asserting that his National People’s Party (NPP) aims to govern the country for generations to come.

Speaking at a political rally in the Upper River Region, organised by the NPP’s National Women’s Mobiliser, Maimuna Baldeh, Barrow emphasised his desire for a prolonged NPP leadership, envisioning a succession plan that extends through future generations of party loyalists.

Barrow declared that upon his departure, he intends for an NPP successor to take his place, cementing a lineage of governance within the party.

Addressing opposition criticism, he argued that those “making noise” have contributed little of value to the country and predicted an even greater defeat for them in the upcoming 2026 presidential elections compared to 2021.

Emphasising unity within his party, he urged NPP members to avoid divisions, especially from “pretenders,” and to continue their work for the nation.

Barrow further described himself as a “service provider” rather than a traditional politician, committed to national projects until, in his words, “Allah decides.”

He also encouraged party militants to formally register with the NPP, highlighting recent scholarships awarded to NPP-aligned university students as an example of support available to committed members.
