
At least two people have been confirmed dead in a fatal traffic collision in Gambia’s Central River Region village of Jafai.
Six others critically injured and hospitalised on Tuesday when the tyre of a speeding Mercedes Sprinter van blew up and causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
Those injured including the driver are reported to be in critical conditions and are hospitalised at the Bansang Hospital, some 251 km from Gambia’s capital, Banjul.
A staff of Bansang Hospital Eye Unit Maimuna Sanneh was among those severely injured and is reported to have been referred to the country’s main referral hospital, Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital in the capital, Banjul for medical attention.
Accidents have been frequent on Gambian roads especially during festivity periods and rainy seasons with many of them leading to the loss of lives and properties.

Death on our roads is reaching a National crisis level, if it’s not done so already. Never a day goes by without some fatal accident reported on our roads. Something needs to be done now to end these preventable and tragic loss of life. This CANNOT be allowed to go unchecked.
