(JollofNews) – Two Gambian pilgrims who went missing while performing this year’s pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia have been confirmed dead.
The pilgrims, Aja Jatou Jammeh-Sidibeh and Aja Nyakassi Jallow were said to have died during the last month’s Hajj stampede which claimed the lives of over 1000 pilgrims.
At least 1500 people died and over 900 were injured in the incident at Mina, which occurred as two million pilgrims were taking part in the Hajj’s last major rite.
It is the deadliest incident to occur during the pilgrimage in 25 years.
The two pilgrims were declared missing earlier this month by the Gambia’s minister of Higher Education, Research Science and Technology, Dr Abubacarr Senghore, who is also member of the Hajj Commission.
