Njundu Drammeh: Coronavirus: Need To Beat The Misinformation Too

They say death is not a frightful thing; it is the fear of death which is more frightening. So it seems to be with the coronavirus. Coronavirus might not be as deadly as the misinformation which is being peddled about it. And misinformation can exacerbate the contraction of the virus….

In a minibus to Westfield this morning and was a lady in baritone voice telling another on the phone “why aren’t coming home? Don’t you know the coronavirus cannot survive under sunlight….” Not even the scorching temperature, but sunlight…. And what is the source that the coronavirus can’t survive under temperature above 27 degrees Celsius?

Then in Banjul later…. A gentleman said in a conversation “aah no worries about this corona….if God says one will die, he or she will die; no bones about that. No one dies who time isn’t up…” Terrible….

You can imagine my efforts to disabuse their minds of their beliefs. Was either/or: asking for the moon or banging my head against a brick wall..

Misinformation + Fatalism + Complacence × Ignorance= massive death if Corona comes knocking…
