The Amir of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaa’t has called on Gambians to nurture the spirit of unity and tolerance as the Jamaa’t on Friday extended humanitarian relief to over 40 fire victims in the Kanifing Municipality.
Amir Baba F. Trawally also made an impassioned call for peace in the country and around the world through support to the poor and embracing of one another.
“Islam is meant to assist the poor, needy and victims like you,” the Amir emphasised as victims of various fire outbreaks in the municipality gathered at KMC precincts to receive food aid and other types of humanitarian support.
“Islam is all about peace. We cannot have peace in the society when the poor are not assisted because the Prophet said your livelihood is taken care of by the poor, the sweat of the poor.
“Therefore, wherever we are if we can do, we will use our resources to assist the poor. So, Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaa’t is here to give these small items,” Amir Trawally added.
He pointed out that the fire outbreaks were regrettable but encouraged victims to take solace in the fact that Allah does what He wants and also encouraged them to be thankful that no life was lost in all the fires unlike those before them.
The Amir also recognised and praised Gambians’ capacity to support, tolerate and understand one another.
“The Gambia…this is what we are known for…assisting each other, to be tolerant and understanding as far as Islam is concerned. Islam has covered all aspects of our lives, including today’s event,” he explained.
“So, therefore on behalf of the the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaa’t, we are giving this small token to you (victims). It’s not only here but we try to go across the country; the little we can do, we can,” stated Amir Trawally.
Meanwhile, the Amir of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaa’t in The Gambia informed the victims that the Supreme Leader of the Worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaa’t, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Khaliphat Ahmad V was saddened by the news of the disasters.
“So, he is praying for the entire country, including the victims. So, please wherever we are, we embrace each other. That is Islam. Our faith, our lives, our everything that is Islam.
“So wherever we are, we try to develop, we try to nurture each other as far as our principles are concerned,” he added.
The Amir thanked the Ahmadiyya Muslim Printing Press and Ahmadiyya Muslim Dental Surgery for their contribution to the relief package.
He also recognized the fruitful partnerships between the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaa’t, NDMA, KMC and other key players in the disaster management industry, promising more fruitful collaborations.
The Executive Director of NDMA, Mr. Sanna Dahaba, urged people to be cautious of fire as according to him, it can be a good servant but a bad master.
He thanked Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaa’t for always reinforcing the country’s disaster management capability.
The Councillor of Tallinding Ward, Karamo Ceesay, said he was grateful that a good number of the beneficiaries lived in his ward.
The Chairman of KMC Regional Disaster Management Committee, Musa Mendy, thanked Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaa’t for their support in strengthening the regional disaster response capacity.
The Deputy Mayor of KMC, Binta Jammeh, thanked Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaa’t on behalf of the KMC mayor and the people of the municipality for their unrelenting disaster relief and other humanitarian interventions.
Beneficiaries Alhaji Amadou Bah of New Jeshwang and Mam Jarra both expressed gratitude for the relief.
Meanwhile, items donated included onions, rice, cooking oil and clothing worth over D250,000.
