Guinea-Bissau’s President Umaro Sissoco Embaló has reversed his initial decision not to run for a second term in office.
Embaló, who became president in 2020, had previously surprised many by citing advice from his wife as the reason for stepping down.
However, after reconsideration, he has now expressed his willingness to seek re-election if his supporters believe he remains the right leader.
His announcement came as he addressed his party, stating that he would continue to serve if the people saw him as “the solution” for the country’s leadership.
