Speaker Jatta Demands Access To High-Quality Education

At the 12th Annual Conference of Speakers of African National and Regional Parliaments, Fabakary Tombong Jatta, Speaker of the National Assembly of The Gambia, called on African legislative bodies to focus on securing the resources and policies necessary for improving access to quality education.

Emphasizing the role of education in societal development and peace, Jatta highlighted the theme of the conference: “Educate an African fit for the 21st Century”.

He urged his peers to prioritize resilient and inclusive educational systems that promote lifelong learning across the continent.

Jatta also addressed the negative impacts of geopolitical tensions and hate speech on education, stressing that conflicts disrupt access to safe learning environments, thereby hindering the growth and development of young Africans.

He called for education systems that foster tolerance and understanding in a culturally diverse continent, underscoring the importance of celebrating diversity in order to promote peace.

His message was clear: African children need an education that equips them not only with knowledge but also the values of inclusivity and unity, essential for the future prosperity of Africa.
