CDS Cham visits Senegal To Strengthen Security Cooperation

General Cham’s visit to Senegal, which began on Tuesday, September 24th, highlights the strengthening ties between the Gambian and Senegalese armed forces.

Since his arrival, the Chief of Defence Staff Major General Mamat O. Cham has held significant discussions with General Mbaye Cisse, the Chief of General Staff of the Senegalese Armed Forces, and participated in various formal events, including military honours and wreath-laying ceremonies.

The itinerary reflects a broad focus on both ceremonial and practical aspects of military collaboration, with visits to military training facilities, museums, and the Senegalese Defense Institute. This visit is part of a broader trend of growing cooperation between Gambia and Senegal, with recent joint cross-border patrols and security meetings reinforcing this partnership.

The shared commitment to addressing common security challenges was exemplified by a joint patrol in August 2024, conducted by the two nations’ military forces. This patrol underscores the importance of collaboration in ensuring cross-border security and maintaining regional stability.
