The lack of enthusiasm with opposition politics in The Gambia is the lack of A Political Agenda for change from the UDP, the main opposition party. Gambians have had enough of President Barrow, but what’s The Political Agenda for change from the UDP?
When we talk about change in The Gambia, we don’t mean just a change of the president and government.
We wanted change of the economic policies that are impoverishing The Gambia.
The unaffordable cost of living expenses and the daunting access to basic public services are directly caused by the economic policy system of successive Gambia governments.
President Barrow happened to be the worst president overseeing a very bad national economic development policy system.
President Barrow’s lack of education and corruption have exacerbated the very bad economic policies that governs the Gambian national economy.
And I’m telling Gambians that until we change the economic development policy system in The Gambia, the unaffordable cost of living expenses and access to basic public services in the country will only get worse.
The structure of our political governance system, the laws and the democratic governance narrative in The Gambia (The 1997 Constitution) are not fit for purpose.
When we talk about Change, to change the terrible economic policies and the bad laws that governs The Gambia’s political economy are the politics some of us expect from The UDP, the main opposition party.
Again, Gambians have had enough of President Barrow and his corrupt and incompetent government.
The only missing component part to the politics for change in The Gambia is The Political Agenda from the UDP, the main opposition party for change.
And until the UDP develops a political agenda for government to change the very bad economic policies and laws that governs The Gambia, it’s pretty much hopeless.
Here’s how change and national development beckons for Senegal: Sonko developed A Political Agenda for government to change the system – the economic policies and the political governance laws and regulations.
The ordinary Senegalese people could tell that something was fundamentally wrong with how their country was governed- people couldn’t get jobs nor have access to basic public services and the cost of living expenses in the country way too expensive and simply unaffordable.
And there comes along Sonko with A Different Political Agenda to change the economic development policy system and political governance laws and regulations.
Sonko in a nutshell captured the political imagination of the ordinary Senegalese people for change.
Sonko and Pastef have taken over the political narrative and initiatives in Senegal.
And Senegal is on the cusp of a political revolution in change and national development.
Sonko and the new government are set to change the economic policies, laws and regulations that have been governing Senegal since 1960 and before.
And the enormous task of fighting corruption and the abuse of public office particularly under Macky Sall.
The change has already started on both the economic policy front and political governance system under the rule of democratic laws.
The UDP is the main opposition party in The Gambia.
Most Gambians wanted a change of the Barrow government, solutions to the very bad economic conditions in the country and terrible anti democratic laws and regulations.
The UDP has to come up with The Political Agenda for change that captured the political imagination of the ordinary Gambians like Sonko did in Senegal.
Ordinary Gambians are simply looking for A political agenda from the main opposition party (the UDP) that talks about how to change the very bad economic policies and conditions in the country.
And the bloody 1997 Constitution and its terrible anti democratic laws and regulations.
Yes, we know that President Barrow is useless, we can’t have access to healthcare and can’t afford to feed our families.
The President is wasting public money on corruption motivated spending errands, the National Debt has skyrocketed and The Gambia is up for sale- it was the same conditions of hopelessness and dejection in Senegal about politics and politicians and the desperate need for change.
Them Sonko came along with The Political Agenda to change the bad economic policies that have been impoverishing Senegal.
Under Macky Sall, the very bad economic policies that have been governing Senegal for generations collapsed completely from corruption, incompetence and impunity.
And under President Barrow, the illogical economic policies that have been governing The Gambia since 1965 have completely failed and irredeemably.
The Gambian electorate like their Senegalese counterparts are looking for the political agenda for change from the main opposition leader and party.
To seize the political narrative and initiative, the UDP must adopt the politics of change, to change the bad economic policies, laws and regulations that have been governing The Gambia since 1965.
That’s why and how Sonko is elected the government in Senegal.
The 5 Points Agenda for government and naming names as possible successors to Darboe are all well and good but not good enough.
Whatever happens, the UDP must have to come up with The Political Agenda for government to change the very bad economic policies, laws and regulations that governs The Gambia’s political economy.
To replace Darboe with another opposition leader and replace president Barrow but keep the same terrible economic development policies is simply a continuation of more of the same nonsense.
Senegal under Sonko is not a continuation of more of the same nonsense.
Can someone in the UDP say something sensible about changing the bad economic policies, laws and regulations that governs The Gambia’s political economy?
