Sanna B. Sanyang, Public Relations Officer of the Lamin Ceesay-led UDP Hands Together movement, has launched a scathing attack on Seedy S.K. Njie, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, and Fabakary Tombong Jatta, Speaker of the National Assembly, accusing them of bearing responsibility for events during The Gambia’s 2016 political crisis.
Speaking to JollofNews, Sanyang said both men “should be in Mile II Central Prison” for their alleged roles in undermining the democratic process during the transition of power from former President Yahya Jammeh to current President Adama Barrow.
He accused Seedy Njie of publicly declaring that President Barrow would not be sworn in, and Fabakary Tombong Jatta of backing the state of emergency declared in January 2017, which Sanyang said displaced thousands and resulted in loss of life.
“By now, Seedy S.K. Njie together with Fabakary Tombong Jatta should have been in the Mile II Central Prison,” Sanyang told JollofNews. “They have no moral authority to talk about sanity or political civility.”
Sanyang also criticised President Barrow, accusing him of betraying the trust of Gambian voters. He claimed Gambians expected stronger leadership and greater accountability from the president after Jammeh’s departure.
He warned that public frustration is growing and suggested that the 2026 presidential election could bring political change.
“It’s just that The Gambia is cursed with leaders,” he said. “We should tell President Barrow that it was we who voted him in and, by the grace of God, come 2026 we will uproot him. We are aware of how he rigged elections and come 2026 we will secure all the borders and no one will be allowed in even if it would cause lives.”
Sanyang’s remarks come amid ongoing political tensions, with opposition figures accusing the Barrow administration of failing to deliver on promises of reform and accountability.
