The first prosecution witness in the trial of Ousainou Bojang and his sister over last year’s killing of two paramilitary officers has stated that the UDP masterminded the “assassination” as part of its effort to topple President Adama Barrow.
In a video recording shared with JollofNews, prosecution witness Mama Jabbie, who also calls herself Barrow La Generalo, said:”The UDP members were behind the assassination [killing of the paramilitaries] because they were the ones who politicised the assassination and used it to vent out their envy of us. They vowed to the country that police officers would be killed and you see, officers were indeed killed just to instil fear of the government in the police.”
According to Ms. Jabbie, it’s utterly untrue the allegation that the Barrow administration planned and executed the killing of constables Sang J. Gomez and Pateh Jallow at Sukuta Traffic Lights in September of last year.
“The claim that the government is behind the killings is not true,” she fumed. She continued:”UDP members were behind the assassination and it’s them who hired Lawyer Lamin Darboe as Ousainou Bojang’s attorney.”
Mama Jabbie indicated that the UDP members had been consulting marabouts in order to disrupt the case, but she stated that Ousainou Bojang and his sister will spend the rest of their lives in jail.
“They [UDP members] are consulting marabouts so that this case can stall but that cannot happen as this matter will be crystal clear,” charged Jabbie, stating:”Ousainou Bojang will be jailed for the rest of his life. I, Mama Jabbie, said so. He killed these people [officers], this Ousainou Bojang. What compelled his elder sibling to rent a taxi, which took him to Darou Salam and then Jululung? How could that have happened hadn’t the entire thing not been shrouded in lies? Ousainou Bojang committed murder on Tuesday and fled the next day.”
Ms. Jabbie alleged that the UDP killed officers Gomez and Jallow as a way of delivering on their earlier promise.
“You [UDP] said the government has a hand in this? You liars, envious and wicked people, who killed people’s children as you vowed,” she claimed.
Describing UDP members as rebels, Mama Jabbie alleged that the Gambia’s biggest opposition party armed Ousainou with a weapon to go after the slain officers.
“You procured the gun all the way from Casamance and gave it to Ousainou Bojang to kill the two officers to instil the fear of Barrow in the police so that you can succeed in overthrowing him. That will never happen here, Ousainou Bojang and his sister will be imprisoned for the rest of their lives. God will never conceal a murderer,” she stated.
