(JollofNews) – Members of the Nigeria’s House of Representatives will today consider a motion whether to grant asylum to President Yahya Jammeh of the Gambia.
The motion which was introduced under matters of urgent public importance by Sani Zoro, member for Jigawa State and former national president of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, will give President Jammeh a chance to go to the west African state and rest.
It will also allow Mr Jammeh to live safely while he is out of office without the risk of prosecution.
Mr Jammeh, 51, who has ruled the Gambia for 22 years last month suffered a surprised election defeat.
The election was called in favour of opposition candidate Adama Barrow who won more than 45% of the vote according to the country’s electoral commission.
Mr Jammeh had initially conceded defeat and praised the country’s electoral system as rigged proof. He changed his mind a week later and declared the results null and void citing huge and unacceptable mistakes by the electoral commission.
He later filed a suit at the supreme court asking judges to determine that Adama Barrow was not duly elected or returned as president, and that the said election was void.
But the court is unable to hold a hearing until May – as most of the judges come from neighbouring countries – and Mr Jammeh has said he is going nowhere until then.
Nigeria’s President Muhammudu Buhari, is the chief regional mediator and is due in the Gambia tomorrow.
Good morning to the platform and all the Gambian loving citizenry, I am very concerned to why the meeting was cancelled with the ECOWAS yesterday till Friday. I am very suspicious to what yaya is planning to do, lots of people are under the impression that he wants to hand over power’ I disagree I think he is cooking something big to surprise our nation and ECOWAS alike. My gut feeling tells me yaya was buying time in delaying ECOWAS so as to plan what to come next. I am not scaremongering or trying to panic anyone it is just my feeling that something is not right to the manner how yaya is still dictating the whole situation. Gambians need to be updated regularly as to why yaya has done this pull out the last minute. He was fully aware of this arrangement beforehand. Let’s wait and see what happen tomorrow. My other suspicion was that he is appointing ministers and firing others. Yaya is up to something I don’t trust this guy, what he says and what he does is the opposite. Gambians keep watching time will tell. I don’t think he want to step down any sooner. God bless our motherland.
The Nigerian MPs are joking. President Jammeh won’t move an inch from Gambian territory.
Jollofnews keeps on repeating the same statements. Why can’t you emphasize that the Coalition misled with the results, denied voters their rights to cast votes in some constituentcies and again want to deny the APRC the right for a redress in the courts.
Why do they have to fear the courts? The results are fraud and we’ll fight to the dead end to receive a fairer interpretation of the entire election exercise.
IN RESPONSE TO BABU SOLI
You are having a day dream
and blaming the right people who believe in the justice of our nation. I will give you a benefit of a doubt. Why did the so call kangaroo judges didn’t turn up on the day to see his faith. The answer lies some where far away in your day dreaming leader who thinks the IEC is not telling the truth. My assumption is they cannot undo the will of gambians who voted him out in a fair and free election. Does your leader even have the right to nullify the election before the court of law. Few days ago he went to say only the same people can decide who rules Gambia, hey very contradictory if you ask me. My advice to you is this let’s be realistic and accept that our excellency Adama Barrow is going to be our new leader, it is about time you understand that and stop all this merry go round. This is about majority of gambians who’s lives are been put on a cliff edge by one man against the will of the nation. Nobody lives forever leaders come and go, sometimes change is good. Imagine eating the same food for two decades. The majority of gambians minus you want a change of course, only then we can sort out this mess present and past. Gambians deserved better. God bless our nation.
Traitors behave just like how Sheriff Bojang and Alieu K Jammeh and others do.
Yahya expect that many of their tribesmen will abandon you, but remain steadfast and reaffirm your position “backward never forward ever. God is ever powerful and Inshallah they will all regret their acts. As the wollof saying goes “Sosseh du sosal ken” they are devillish and only want to see your downfall but they will never live to see that. Note that with their treacherous plans in their defections none will ever survive to see your downfall. It is now clear to you that with all what they were saying in niceties and praise singing they were undermining you just to see your downfall but God the all knowing and everpowerful is and will continue to.protect you from their evil machination. INSHALLAH.
LONGLIVE YAHYA A.J.J. JAMMEH
Hello Fellow Gambian,
I, Adama Barrow Independent Candidate representing the Coalition of eight parties hereby declare that the planned innaugration schuled for 19th January be postponed until when the ruling can be made on Petition filed by the APRC Party.
The reason is, i want to go into office with a clean sheet. If i had known that the self exiled Gambians in the Diaspora had bribed the corrupt IEC Chairman Alieu Momar Njie before December 1st election i would have withdrawn my candidature. Democracy is not about cheating its all about being clean and to clean the mess other people left. On that note i am declaring the scheduled innaugration be halted until further notice. No urge for ascending to the presidency when the peace and tranquility of our beloved Gambia can be endangered.
Many thanks for your cooperarion.
Yours
ADAMA BARROW
Candidate Independent Coalition.
this fake news should not appear here!
Thats News Bullshit.
Honestly all jammeh needs is amnesty and leaves. He really pretends to love the country but honestly only for himself. The gambia is empty now. Thats what he threatened during the campaign. I know he fears prosecution, but its time we forgive him eras him un our memories. There is no punishmnent and humiliation more the unbelievable election defeat that he never expected.
Yes i totally agree, especially after he has been ranting all these years that neither a coup nor an election can remove him from power.
