(JollofNews) – An international journalist and communications for development consultant has been appointed as the Director General of the state-owned Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS).
Ebrima Sillah, a former BBC Africa correspondent who also worked for a number of media houses including print, radio and online, succeeds veteran broadcaster Malik Jones.
Mr Sillah’s main task will be to reform and increase public trust in the state broadcaster which was largely seen as a propaganda tool of the previous regime of Yahya Jammeh.
The respected journalist fled the Gambia in 2004 after surviving an attempt on his life by agents of Mr Jammeh’s regime due to his reporting on a number of unexplained disappearances and allegations of the widespread torture of political detainees.
He also survived two abduction attempts while living in Dakar, Senegal, after he demanded an investigation into the case of two Gambian nationals who were allegedly kidnapped by Gambian security operatives in the Senegalese capital.
He later relocated to Nairobi, Kenya where he lived for some years before returning to Banjul following the end of Mr Jammeh’s regime.

Good afternoon,
I sponsored a boy roughly 15 years adopted him paid for his education through university helped get him a job at live stock laboratory Abuko, loved him like a son bought him land started building him a house trusted him enough to make him my power of attorney. I bought a car in front of many witnesses but I was told by him that due to the country’s state no government offices were opened. He got married during the election and tried having me arrested for stealing HIS CAR the police didn’t believe him but he put the car into his name. As I have been involved in a court case for 3 years which was a joke I’m reluctant to go through this again. I’m not well never been involved with any activities other than sponsored children. Can you please help me make sure he never hurts anyone again
