(JollofNews) – Executive members of the Gambia’s United Democratic Party (UDP) will Sunday embarked on a countrywide campaign for its candidates in next month’s National Assembly election.
The UDP which is part of the coalition government of Adama Barrow, is seeking to capture the National Assembly.
The Gambia will hold first election since the defeat of ex-President Yahya Jammeh on April 4th. But political parties that formed the coalition government have put up candidates against each other after failing to agree on terms.
The UDP was recently blamed by Agriculture Minister Omar Jallow, who is also leader of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) of causing the division and bickering in the heart of the coalition government.
Unbothered by the criticisms, the party’s leadership including Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, minister of Foreign Affairs will hold meetings on Sunday in Barra, Fass, Medina Sereign Mass, Fass Chaho, Bakalarr, Albreda, Munyajen, Kerewan Bridge, Kinteh Kunda and Kerewan and will appeal to voters to back the UDP candidates.
The UDP leadership will also hold meetings across all constituencies in the country where the party has put up candidates for the election.
The end of the Coalition , UDP tandem Darboe Barrow who’s the next president? Barrow campaigning for UDP That’s mean Barrow not independent anymore as the Coalition mentioned??
Why not make a comment of this article “Missing Naturalised Gambian-Americans Confirmed Dead ” ????
This is a betrayal of the electorate.
Samba, where were you when the coalition eventually agreed to parties to field their own candidates? What do you think OJ was doing when he made that attack on Ousainou? Every party is campaigning so i don’t see why UDP should not go and campaign. Should they have field independent candidates under the coalition? My answer to that is absolutely YES!! But we are where we are now so lets turn down the sentimentality and be pragmatic now. People should move on from that issue and continue giving our support to the various coalition partners we share the same ideologies with. We should not listen to the likes of Sidi Bojang and =peace# they do not have the best interest of the country at heart. Did you guys not noticed that they only comment on issues that involve the coalition but not on issues that expose Yahya’s crimes?
The Dictatorship is gone and Gambia is in NORMAL party politics. Good luck to ALL the parties – and let us hope EACH party will try to capture as many seats as they can. Those who gather a majority of seats (singularly as a party OR as a coalition of parties) will decide the government agenda for the next five years. That is democracy.
I could not agree more with Mr Sanyang and Mr Halake.
Lets see if the UDP have any momentum following Jammeh’s defeat.
After the results we can re-assess the information gathered.
It may be too early to suggest Gambia may need to consider proportional representation.
I really do not understand this anti Mandinka anti UDP malarky.?
These people have nothing to fear. The UDP will not influence the outcome.
It will be the electorate.
So many Gambian’s voted for the APRC including Mandinka’s Lets just see what the present state and mindset is. I don’t think anyone know’s
That’s democracy…ask Trump and Farage and Johnson. ,,whhooo and what about Marie Le Penne>>>who would have thought she would have any chance.???
Mike, the only people who are so anti Mandinka and anti UDP are the APRC trolls on the site. They want to distract people from discussing the atrocities that their beloved Jammeh committed against Gambians. They are just following their leaders footsteps by trying to put a wedge between Mandinkas and other tribes because that’s the only way APRC can survive. They have being hanging onto every word of their cult leader and took everything he said as the gospel truth. He even swore to them that Gambia will never again have a Mandinka president, if that should ever happen then he will die and go to hell. Weeks after saying that he lost the elections to a Mandinka, that’s why his supporters hate Mandinkas this much. They failed to see Jammeh’s humiliating defeat as a collective effort because the presidential candidate is a Mandinka.
Buba sanyang, I definitely concur with your sentiments.
Total agree with you Buba. The problem with these sort of bigots is that they are dangerous.
Buba;
Your a Gambian born and bred, I am a visitor and observer looking for good signs not bad.
I would not even consider entering a tribal debate;
But I would enter a debate with people wearing an election tee shirt.
I am Man Utd Supporter…You should see what happens when Liverpool visit ???
But after the game the overwhelming majority co- exist with due respect.
That’s what I have seen in my election visits to Gambia. Next day all is normal and the day is filled with other more pressing needs. Lets focus on those///
The threat of udp in URR and gambisara does not change people because Citizens know what to do with their votes URR go 100 % Independent no to Darboe and Co
Buba, I am not sure which Samba posted a comment earlier but that was not me. I have not written since my last post on “Law beyond the courtroom.”
Samba, i thought as much, because if it was you, you would have given some reasons for reaching that conclusion. However it’s good of you to let us know it was not your posting. Respect to you.
