Senegal’s Supreme Court OKs Sidia Bayo’s Expulsion

Sidia (JollofNews) – The Supreme Court of Senegal Tuesday authorised the deportation to France of a Gambian dissident who called for his countrymen rise up and overthrow President Yahya Jammeh during a failed coup attempt.

On 30th December, Diaspora based Gambian dissidents armed with night-vision goggles, body armour and semi-automatic rifles bought at shops in the US, hidden beneath clothes and shipped in barrels to the Gambia, attacked the presidential palace in Banjul while Mr Jammeh was away on a private visit to Dubai.
In a video posted on the Internet and in a later interview on Senegalese television, Sheikh Sidia Bayo, head of the Dakar-based National Transitional Council of the Gambia, called upon Gambians to support the coup.
Mr Bayo who holds Gambian and French citizenship was arrested on 3rd January by Senegalese security forces in the capital, Dakar.
Senegal has strongly condemns the attack on  the Gambia’s presidential place, which it said was undertaken “by a group of insurgents” and has reassured President Jammeh that it will continue to be guided by the principles and values of its foreign policy which opposes any change of government through unconstitutional and violent means.
