Gambia: I Stand With Director General, Ebrima Sillah Of GRTS!

Dear Mr. Sillah

(JollofNews) – It gives me a great pleasure to extend my warmest congratulations to you on your recent action against the kerr fatou show program on GRTS.

The anchors of the Kerr Fatu Show are very irresponsible, unprofessional, unethical and unscrupulous as most of the theme of their programs are to inculcate hate among us the Gambians. I was very flag basted, disappointed, depressed beyond all human survival upon listening to their episode 3 tribalism in The Gambia

During the show they lambast, attacked the noble Jola tribe beyond all human race as far beyond Pluto. As if the Jola’s are the only tribe in The Gambia.

The aforesaid immorality episode was a hateful fabrication of intolerable huge lies, extreme dislike, deep-rooted academic and intellectual suicide, mathematically calculated wrongly and intended to portray the noble Jola tribe in bad light, and to maliciously destroy the dignity and impeccable integrity, which the Jola tribe is known for centuries ago.

Hate speech and tribalism will not solve a problem. It is only through dialogue; reasoning and critical thinking can help remedy the situation.

It is arguable that the negative effects of tribalism permeate all African countries. Millions have been killed, maimed or displaced in civil wars in sub-Sahara Africa over the past 50 years, mostly because of tribal agitation. Most of us are living witnesses to the carnage that occurred in Rwanda and is still going on in Somalia.

These countries have fallen into the abyss mainly because of tribalism.

Sir as a leader you should be able to take firm decision that might bring peace. Don’t waste any iota of time to erase any program from the list that would serve as a threat to our peace and the newly born democracy.

Sir, as a CEO you have done a remarkable work and have submitted outstanding piece of works. Your contribution to the GRTS has been always glorified. Your appointment as MD deserves a proud recognition and hence a liable responsibility for this position. Under your guidance, GRTS have witnessed a rising curve in terms of worldwide coverage.

Your unending ability to motivate fellow mates will continue to make your schemes and tasks more effective. Your love for journalism has certainly paid you off with employment.

Certainly your willingness to volunteer your time and effort, as well as express your opinions, has contributed to your being selected for the post too.
I feel proud to have you as a MD of our venture. Wishing you continued success.

  1. I think the author of this piece is confusing two different things here. Having an issue with the show’s episode on tribalism is one thing and does not necessarily mean that the DG of GRTS was right in what he did. If the author thinks the show was unfairly characterising the jola tribe, that’s fine, he has a right to his opinion, and it may be valid but I don’t think that should be used as ammunition to support the DG in this move without objectively looking at the circumstances surrounding it.
I think this piece should have been written just after the episode on tribalism and not as a piggyback after the DG incident just to reinforce one’s belief or views.
Let’s criticise objectively and not based on sentiments or score settling.

  2. Mr. Jarjou, it is clear to from your piece what the DG actually did. You owe it to the readers a thorough story instead of one that is incoherent.

  3. Corr. It is not clear to me from your storyline what the DG actually did.

The content of above TV programme episode is indeed poor. Dr. Sidibeh was the most wanting in his performance. He did not realise the magnitude of the seriousness of the topic under discussion and somehow swerved off the topic many a times and patronising to whoever watching. On top of that he titled himself professor of psychology! The topic is serious and should have been handled in a serious manner -all the more reason because it was running on national broadcaster. Next time participants should be thoughtfully selected.

  4. I would have loved to carry on reading this piece, only to be put off by (what i would describe as the) unnecessary use of very strong adjectives upon adjectives before getting to the main point. This is not restricted to my fellow Gambians alone, but when are we as Africans, going to realise that what makes a good read, is the simple nature of the writing. Simple choice of words. We are targeting our fellow Gambians as audience and in that case, failure to realise what the average Gambian can assimilate intellectually, is as good as talking to animals. Something we should all ponder upon.

  5. I always wonder who is this Saidna. Is he a Gambian, a Jola or another individual who benefited from the numerous scholarship that Yaya Jammed gave directly to his Jola tribes. If he is well my advice to him is that tribalism by the Yaya Jammed regime is over.If Saidna is standing with GRTS for not allowing the show to be telecast then we should all know who he is.
Last week he also tried to credit Yaya Jammeh for building THE UNIVERSITY OF THE GAMBIA and then again trying to advice its president about what the university needs. What ever that University lacks or need as I write were the failures of its proclaim builder.Yes it is true that he built schools but all the schools Yaya built were schools in which some does not even have enough teachers.Saidna is a racist to the core. Anything mention about Jola to him it is as if you are talking about him personally. He thinks we who read his articles on Freedom News don’t know who he is.No body is a fool here.
I have true Jola friends from childhood .Majority of my school teachers were Jola as well.My mam and sister speak the language fluently.Saidna is huge cyber criminal and he is trying to continue with thesame difference Yaya Jammeh brought between the Jolas and the rest of Gambian people. His writings on CASAMANCE should alert everyone about this dangerous man.My advice to the editors of Gambia online news papers is watch and edit what this man writes. Words are more dangerous than weaponds

  6. I’m beginning to doubt whether DG Ebrima Sillah has worked for the BBC. After 8 months in office, GRTS is still ‘reporting ‘ the news under heavy censorship, its still dogged with uninteresting programs and the only TV station yet to have morning breakfast show dealing with independent analysis of the news on a daily basis. GRTS is still the mouthpiece of a nervous government being run on party line.
