(JollofNews) – Senegal’s top traditional wrestler Eumeu Sene has dedicated his victory to Gambian leader Yahya Jammeh after securing a landslide victory against his counterpart, Balla Gaye at the Demba Diop Stadium in Dakar on Sunday evening.
Eumeu a native of Pikin, a suburb of the highly cosmopolitan city of Dakar, said he met with President Jammeh in the Gambia’s provincial town of Farafenni few months back and that he (Jammeh) prayed for him and asked him to accept any wrestler given to him.
Sene, who broke down in tears after wining Sunday’s battle, said he would pay a visit to the Gambia on Thursday, on his first leg outside Senegal, as he bagged the most anticipated combat in this year’s wrestling season.
“I will be going to Gambia on Thursday and I will make my Friday prayer there. So I want all Senegalese and Gambians to come out, the convoy will depart from Pikin up to Gambia amid grand jubilation,” Eumeu told a private television channel in Dakar, TFM via telephone on Sunday night.
Meanwhile, thousands of Eumeu’s supporters in Banjul, Serrekunda, and satellite communities have been celebrating the victory, chanting and singing with the name of Eumeu Sene.
A rousing welcome is awaiting the top wrestler in Banjul on Thursday.
