(JollofNews) – Investigation kicked Tuesday into high gear as suspects linked to the ‘murder’ of a lady were nabbed by police. Manjai Kunda residents are still in shock after seeing the body of a female victim dumped in street.
“On Saturday 26th November, 2017 at about 07:00hrs a body of an adult lady was found dumped along the streets in Manjai Kunda.The matter was reported to the Police in the Kanifing Region and a team of police investigators were dispatched to the area,” Police deputy spokesperson Foday JK Conta told JollofNews.
Pictures of the victim were posted on social media platforms, provoking waves of outcry across the country. This prompted the police to scale up their investigation and made a breakthrough in a very short period.
Conta said investigators drove the body to the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) in Banjul after the necessary procedures were conducted.
“Investigation continued and some people were arrested in connection to the matter which includes Mr. Sheikh Hydara,” he added.
Following the identification of the victim, Police deputy PRO further stated that it was revealed that on Saturday night 25th November 2017, Miss. Vanisah whose nationality and age is yet to be known came to Lynnes Lodge in Manjai Kunda with a man who was identified to be Sheikh Hydara a 34 year old of Tallinding.
Apprehended by the police for being identified as the person who was with Miss. Vanisah, Conta said the main suspect disclosed to police investigators that they had drink at a local bar, and later opted to go into a lodge where he paid for a room.
“He stated that Miss Vanisah decided to take shower whilst he was waiting. Suddenly after a while, he noticed that Vanisah fell in the bathroom and blood was oozing from her nose. During the early hours of Sunday morning, he decided to get her in his car with the help of some people in the lodge,” Conta revealed.
As investigators are taking with a pinch of salt the statement given by Sheikh Hydara, police spokesperson said a thorough investigation led by the regional police commissioner Landing Bojang and the Regional Crime Management Coordinator, ACP Pateh Bah, led to the
conclusion that there could be foul play surrounding Miss. Vanisah’s untimely death.
While Sheikh Hydara is still in police custody for further investigation, the body of the victim is at the mortuary of the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital in Banjul for a medical examination to further help in the investigation.
